View Full Version : BDUP 5k freezing and stacking units....
patsc23 05-23-08, 10:01 AM I've had some issues with freezing on certain BR discs (golden compass, 30 days of night and superbad) When it happens i need to power down completely. For all I know it could be disc issues but I also noticed last night how hot the DTV box I stack on top of it is. Even off its very hot. I remember back with my PS2 it would overheat and freeze just like this.
Does anyone know where I could get a stacking unit to separate the DTV box and 5K? The other shelf holds the Denon so thats not an option. I saw the Mad Catz PS3 unit, which i could get and hack in half but Id rather just get one that i dont have to modify....
You may have to resort to what I did for my Moto box and 5k, I just got two pieces of pine and made a square U using finishing nails. It's not wide and I just let the Moto 6200 box's feet hang over the edge of the stack shelf it's 6" wide and maybe 10 to 12 long.
I could care less about the Moto box because I rent the stupid thing from TW and this is my second unit. They go bad after a while so I'm glad I never bought one. Good luck I'm off to BB to see if they still have that 01/08 demo 5k on the shelf, the guy said I could get it for 20% off plus I have my rewards coupon for for an extra 12% comes to 381 something.:D
Talk2Me 05-23-08, 02:34 PM You did not mention if you have firmware update?

so how much space is in between the units?
aschnare 05-23-08, 03:03 PM I actually have done a similar thing on top of my DTV box, I just took a piece of pine and cut it in two, the length of the player. It's basically just two sticks that run down the length of the DTV box that the player sits on top of. I find I get better air flow between the two units with just two sticks. The pieces of pine might be an inch high if that, just enough so that a decent amount of hot air can escape.

i think this is what ill do, maybe spray paint it black with some high temp paint so that you cant really see it - thx
elwood58 05-28-08, 01:21 PM It has been a while since I had DTV, but at the time, they recommended 2" of air space all the way around. Not only are you locking up the Blu Ray player, but likely not doing the DTV box any good either.

that wouldnt make any sense...if they require 2 inches underneath as well then why dont they prop it up two inches?
is this something they came out with after the release of the box?
downtown11 06-07-08, 04:48 PM Ok, I'm having the same issue with my player randomly freezing, regardless of the disc format..so far, it's happened on the Incubus Alive at Red Rocks Blu-Ray, Sweeney Todd DVD and the Roxy Music - Avalon DTS-CD. I can't even hit stop or eject...I have to reboot.
There's more than enough space around the player that I can't see overheating being an issue. I have read a couple of reviews on Amazon stating that the player freezes occasionally. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem..if it's an inherent bug to this particular model, or if my player needs to be exchanged.

i've since put my old samsung SD dvd player as a buffer between my dtv box and 5k -- there arent that many movies i want to watch right now so ive only tested it with 3 movies, none of which have froze...im hoping in my situation it was the heat, it was the only thing i could think of
