I'm looking into getting a 50" plasma to replace my 46" DLP. I've narrowed it down to the three Panasonics (two new models and one older). Which do you guys think would be the best buy? I can get the 800U for $2250, the 85U for $1850, or the 700U for $2000. I know the 700U has received stellar reviews, but haven't heard much about the new series yet. And are there really any differences between the 800U and 85U other than an extra HDMI and 24p cinematic playback (and does that REALLY do anything)? I'm using a receiver, so I don't care about the upgraded speakers...

I have the 85U and it's a wonderful set. If you can get it as cheaply as you stated in your post, I would say go for it. The 800U will give you THX certification. If that's important to you, then you might want to step up, otherwise, the only other features include the extra HDMI port and native 24p for blu ray. It's up to you if those items are worth an extra $400. Your call.

Also, the rules of the forum state, we are only allowed to discuss MSRP in these threads.

Good luck with your decision.

Well if it was me for only $250 more than the PZ700 I would go with the PZ800. From what I've read though there is a problem with Panny's 24P mode so I would'nt let that be the deciding factor. Also check out the PZ800 thread for more info on the tv. Also where are you getting those prices from? EPP or if there internet prices are those the delivered price?
