I am not sure what kind of antenna I have, but I plug in the antenna for my bedroom TV is working just fine with all digital channel (which is sony lcd), and my parents just bought a samsung t4661f for the living room, I did the samething but it seems there is no signal for digital channel. And actually we have a Charter cable box for the living room, is there something wrong with the TV or problems how I programing the channel?
thanks.

Apparently you are trying to receive ATSC OTA digital channels from Charter cable instead of from an antenna in your parents house which you can not do since cable systems do not provider ATSC RF protocol.

so does the sony tv can receive ATSC OTA digital channels from Charter cable?
cause i unplug the one from my bedroom's tv, than use the same one to plug in the samsung in the living room, still get no digital channel...so I wonder is it because both tvs got different functions. And the one in living room need a "real" antenna.

Thanks for reply!!

There are three different methods for receiving a TV signal: Cable, which comes through a cable company such as Charter; Satellite, which comes from a dish such as Dish network or Directv; and OTA, which stands for Over The Air, which comes from an antenna. There are other ways to receive a signal, but those are the main ones, and they are mutually exclusive. In other words, you cannot receive a satellite signal or OTA through a cable system. However, with the proper equipment, it is possible to recive a cable signal from the cable company and an OTA signal from an antenna.

As I posted in your dup thread...

You don't have an antenna at all, your set has a QAM tuner and you are receiving your locals via unencrypted QAM from Charter. If the new set has a QAM tuner, try splitting the feed from the wall before the cable box and attach one of the feeds directly to the set and re-scan for channels. If it doesn't have a QAM tuner, you'll need to upgrade to an HD tuner from Charter for it.

When you try that with your parent's television, are you changing its tuner selection from "cable" to "antenna" (or "air")?  If you leave it on "cable," it will search for QAM signals instead of ATSC signals, and it won't get any from the antenna.
