I am going to be hanging flat panel televisions in two rooms one with 9' ceilings and on with 10' ceilings. At what height should I hang these televisions. Also what are the most efficient and least expensive remote control repeaters to be able to store my components in other rooms?

Your seated "eye" height should be 1/3 - 1/2 the way up the screen. Ceiling height is irrelevent. In most cases, your "eyes" will be between 30" - 40", so that's about where the center of your screen should be (or a bit higher if you shoot for the 1/3 mark - most often used with recliners). Just sit in your seating the way you would to watch a movie and have someone measure how far up the floor your "eyes" are.

Another tip is to put an 'X' using painters tape or whatever is handy where you think the screen might go. Then you just sit down and stare at the 'X' to see if it's in a comfortable position; I think it might help some visualize better.

Too freakin high: (of course the wedding pic on the left is ridiculously high)

I think the problem most people have is they think they are hanging a piece of art on the wall and they they stick it at a level that is even with their eyes when standing. It needs to be much lower.
A better solution is to hang it over a low cabinet and then you don't feel like it is too low.

I sat on my couch in the reclined (the position I am in 85% of the time) looked towards the wall that the tv would be on and closed my eyes. I opened my eyes and wherever I was looking on the wall was where I wanted the middle of the screen to go. It is about 54" from the floor to the middle of my 50" plasma and my couch is about 11 ft away. I have the tv on a tilt mount and have it slightly tilted down. I watch for hours and play Xbox and have no neck strain problems. My cabinet under the tv is 30" high.

Yeah I watched a movie the other day with a flat panel that was over the fireplace. It seemed OK at first, but by the end of watching it, it was really bothering me.

The Picture with the TV over the fireplace is my Work, (this is a Master Bedroom) the Bed is 30 feet away from the fireplace, and there are not other walls to place the tv on. the customers bed is also high ( about 3 feet).
This customer was really happy with my work, I got about 10 referrals from him.
I have alot of friends with theirs above the fireplace and they all love it there. It is a little too high for my taste but eye level is way to low hang on the wall (my opinion of course). Mine is in between eye level and fireplace height.
You probably already have this solved by now but I would suggest the Universal Remote brand (with RF expander unit) for the best function to price value. http://www.universalremote.com/consumer/products.php
I have used this for years with no problems. Has all the bells and whistles of $400 units at half the price.

Their bed is 30' away? I doubt it, but even if it is, you wouldn't even be able to see that tiny display from that far.

well maybe your sight is not as good as it was when you where younger, but 50 inches tv is plenty of viewable area, specially at 30 feet away, besides take a look at the walls, they just moved in and there is no other place to install the tv, but on over the mantle of the fireplace, its just a mater of convinience, I would not install it on the side walls, it was the only choice for them and they are still very happy with it. You can try to explain it by saying that people like you and me are thinking that this is a piece of artwork, come on, accept the fact that is a fad and its here to stay.
