View Full Version : Installed Romex, cable jackets knicked ... fire risk?

I've just pulled 12 gauge Romex from a wall on one side of the room, up through the ceiling, and back down the wall of the opposite side. This is for a PowerBridge installation. 12 gauge wire is rather ... stiff ... so this wasn't easy for me at all. Especially since the cable path wasn't a straight line; I had to make a turn along the way.

Anyway, I've noticed, no doubt due to the pulling, that the cable jacket is all scratched up and has the odd knick here and there. None of the internal wires or exposed or anything. Is the cable still safe to use or is this a fire risk?

Safe, use it.

I agree. Safe to use. Remember the wires inside have their own insulation within the yellow outer jacket.

Your're OK as long as the conductor jacket is not nicked; just put some electrical tape over the sheathing

Thanks guys. I had a feeling it was still safe to use, but wanted a second opinion. I feel a lot better now. :)
