If I am using a CM 4228 antenna "only", do I choose the common or separate setting inside the CM 7777? I will not be trying to receive any VHF stations.

Thanks!!

If you are in Arlington, VA, you will want to receive upper VHF stations after February 17, 2009. WJLA-DT ABC 7 and WUSA-DT CBS 9 will switch their digital broadcast from UHF to upper VHF 7 & 9. In Baltimore, WBAL-DT NBC 11 and WJZ-DT CBS 13 will switch from UHF to upper VHF 11 & 13. If the CM 7777 is going up on the roof or access will not be easy, I would run the co-axial cable though the joint UHF/VHF connector and leave the CM 7777 set to amplify UHF & VHF. The CM 4228 should work fine for WJLA-DT and WUSA-DT next year from Arlington. Not so sure about WBAL-DT 11 if you get it now as WBAL-DT has opted to go with a rather modest power of 5 kW for digital VHF 11 next year.

Some of learn lessons the hard way. I was "certain" that I would never need VHF, so I hooked my 7777 up for "separate." Of course I was wrong. So I had to essentially redo everything to get to the preamp box and hook it up as "together." I think the only reason to use "separate" is if you are running separate UHF and VHF antennas.

Thanks!! I actually hooked up this setup for a friend out near Charlottesville,VA. We were both extremely pleased with the results using this combo. Looks like that area will be all UHF, except for the DC stations which are very marginal anyway. I am just using an 91-xg here in Arlington right now with no amp, and it slightly overloads my tuner, even with no amp. The UVSJ that Rick0725 had recommended works wonders here by filtering out all the strong out of band VHF which greatly improves my ability to DX from here.(Still waiting for WHAG to go full power). I'm guessing I will be able to use the USVJ to add a VHF Hi-band back into the system, when the transition occurs in Feb 09, and hopefully will only have to worry about strong FM at that point. It will be great when all the high powered analog TV signals are gone.

If your friend can get the Richmond stations, WWBT-DT NBC 12 will be flash cutting to VHF 12 from UHF 54 (out of core) next February 17.

WHAG-DT NBC 25 in Hagerstown is staying at 900 Watts on UHF 55 until next February. WHAG-DT will move to UHF 26 after February 17, 2009. Besides putting up a new antenna, buying new transmitters, and other work, WHAG-DT will have to wait until WETA PBS 26 turns off their analog signal before going full power. There is 1 digital station on upper VHF in the DC region, WWPX-DT Ion 60 on VHF 12 out in Martinsburg, WV. I can get it without much trouble here in Sterling, VA.

We didn't have any luck with Richmond 12, but Charlottesville 29 is an NBC affiliate, so that will work. I actually got channel 12 Martinsburg here in Arlington when I was using a small Winegard 7210: but is just a channel 66 ION re-broadcast which I was already getting. I am hoping the 7210 will work well for Baltimore 11 & 13 in Feb 09) This antenna really suprises me with how well it works on Hi-Vhf; and especially UHF. I had also tried a Winegard 7082 P; but the UHF is far superior on the 7210. I still needed a little more UHF to offset rain fade, so I tried the 91-XG. It's a bit stronger and more directional on UHF than the 7210. I'm behind a hill from DC and Baltimore, and it creates a tremendous amount of mutipath. I am also still amazed how much more accurate the TV fool is when you put in your coordinates instead of your address. It is 100% accurate for my situation.(Lots of 2 edge)
