Well... just joined the forum so i figured I'd post my theater... its still in process but very close to being finished (if there is such a thing).

My equipment is as follows...
Projector: Panasonic PT-AE1000U
Screen: DaLite 16x9 119" Perm Wall
Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX-82TXS (7.1)
Front Speakers: R+L, old set of infinity towers (i forget the model)
Surround Speakers: Speakercraft AIM Cinemadipole
Surround Back: Speakercraft AIM MT
Sub: Klipsch KSW-12
PS3
Xbox360 Elite with HD-DVD
Nintendo Wii
Cable Box
Universal Remote MX900 and an MRF350 RF/IR system
Wiring is all Tributaries for HDMI, and 14 gauge speaker wire.
Seating is Berkline 099s with leather

The room was constructed with MLV between the studding and Drywall... the ceiling has a double layer of drywall and the whole room is insulated with owens corning quietzone.

So here are some pictures:

So there it is... Still a few things left to do. I'm waiting on some B&W front and center channels at the moment. Also, I'm working on some method of acoustic treatment because the reverb is terrible at the moment. The DVD rack is going to get taken out and I'm going to build some custom shelves.

I have some more pictures of the theater I'll put up later along with some shots of the gaming area outside maybe too.

Any Ideas/suggestions on acoustic treatment would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for looking,
Tom

Immediately, I have a couple of questions. What are your room dimensions, specifically your ceiling height at the front wall. At what height have you mounted the screen? From the pics, the ceiling looks about 11' high making that screen mount seem too high as well.

Can you also take some closer pics of your sconces? Also at what height are those mounted?

I am puzzled by the design of the front wall. Why is there a recessed section in the middle?

Many here would die for a room of that size....looks like you have a very enjoyable space.

Thanks for sharing.

The room is 24' deep x 16' wide x 9.5' high
The screen is so high because of the view from the rear rows... I should have made the tiers higher, but I ended up just putting the screen up higher to compensate. The angle isnt too bad from the front row though, nothing noticeable when watching.

the sconces, which are mounted 62" to the bottom:

I also have a camera, comedy/tragedy mask, and take-one clapboard
I ordered them from www.stargatecinema.com

The recessed section of the front wall was a bit of a mess up in the room design. Originally the screen was supposed to be recessed into it with a curtain covering it, but the architect somehow managed to mess up the drawings even though I told him the dimensions of the screen... Unfortunately, I never took a tape measure to it until it was already framed and drywalled, so I ended up with the current situation because I did not want to budge on the screen size.

anyway, thanks for the response! and the room really is great... we've been doing everything from mariokart tournaments (the new game for wii is awesome) to oscar watching parties and we have a group of friends over every week to watch shows like Heroes and Lost, so its getting a lot of use.

Great job but I'd have to agree. You should consider a 12' wide high power 2.35:1. The Panny would do fine but you'd need a 3' extension pole type mount to drop it and maximize the gain.

I've been tossing that around for a while now... the black bars are killing me. The Peerless mount I used would make it easy to just add a longer pole, but I don't think I would be able to lower the projector that much without blocking the view from the 3rd row... Maybe I'll look into it a little more once the bank account has a little time to recuperate

anyway, thanks for the compliments. I love the color too (Benjamin Moore Tucson Red #1300) the only issue is that the sconces have to be on REALLY low or else the screen picks up a red glow from the light reflecting off the wall... I'm also thinking I might have to look into some step lights, maybe rope lighting, to help keep the steps illuminated because some people that are hard of seeing have issues with them when the room is dark.

Anyone have any suggestions for some acoustic treatment? I looked into paneling, but now I'm thinking I might make some fake soffits and columns and just stuff them with R-19 and wrap them with acoustically transparent fabric.

Thanks!

If you're on a budget, take a look at these acoustic panels: http://www.atsacoustics.com/cat--ATS-Acoustic-Panels--100.html

They are great panels, well made, and very inexpensive.

The cost wasnt the issue with the acoustic panels, it was more the fact that i wasnt sure if I wanted a bunch things hanging on the wall that would make it look too busy... I guess it depends on how many I would need though.
