i just got a new 5010 Kuro FD plasma and i need a new player.
I got a Pioneer Elite from tweeter for 78$ (dv46av) and i just read a lot negative problems with that player . The picture quality is not that good.For 78$ can't go wrong for a price but i need something batter for my Kuro. It took me 4 mouths of researching to buy a tv i need a good recommendation for a dvd. i know that oppo is in my price range of 160$ i don't want to speand more than 200 bc i be buying BD sometime soon . So i need something for time being. how good is the Oppo DV-980H ,witch Denon will be simullar to oppo 980H

I believe Kuro has an excellent scaler. Get any old dvd player and send 480i though component and let the tv upscale.

I have the 980H going to a 61" DLP. I think the picture quality is very good. I don't know much about the Kuro, but as the other poster said, it has good upscaling.

Ditto on the other posts in regard to the Oppo 980 (http://www.oppodigital.com/dv980h/default.asp).

Set the Oppo output to 480i and feed the Kuro via an inexpensive HDMI cable (from an AVS Forum sponsor, of course) and let the Kuro's excellent processor(s) do the de-interlacing/scaling.

well i have Denon 1200 that only does 480i/480p via component but the picture quality is veary bad. Blacks are not bacck the whole screen is fuzzy, really bad. I also have Pionner dvd player that has HDMI and blacks are really good but the picture is still fuzzy. I read a lot reviews about pioneer dvd that i have and the main problem with them was the PQ so i will return that one since i only had it for 2 days. So i probly gonna give an oppo a try see how it do with kuro

Feeding a Kuro 480i over HDMI from an OPPO 980 will produce a very nice image.

The DV-46AV looks better through component than HDMI, Look for the improved version DV-48AV or step up to the DV-58AV which is a really nice 1080P upconverting DVD player

480i into the Kuro will get you 1080p 72hz output. However, there are better deinterlacers around but then you only get 1080p 60hz output. (The better deinterlacers aren't in players that upconvert to 1080p24). Oops, just noticed that OP stated 5010. Is that a 1080p panel? I can't keep the numbers straight. If not, you should still get 72hz output with 480i input.
