Im in need for a OTA receiver and I use to have Dish network and that receiver picked up HD OTA channels.

My question is can I get an used satellite HD receiver from directv or dish and use it for OTA?

Most of the older Directv models will work fine. Stay away from the H10, H20 and H21 models.

Great question! Anyone know if my old Dish 942 will allow the OTA to come in without being a subscription machine? Even better, since it can record OTA on the DVR portion, will I be able to do that without paying Dish?

I think perhaps you misunderstood the previous post. With Dish the receiver must receive a signal from the satellite in order for the OTA 8VSB tuner to operate. With many of the older DirecTV receivers this is not the case.

I understand about the receivers. I bought a Directv Sony HD200. Its working with cable right now.

My question is can I use the dish on my house and put a LNB on it to pickup OTA HD? Its a dish network dish from 2 year ago.

You need the proper OTA UHF/VHF antenna for your location, you can't use the dish to pick up OTA reception.
