I just purchased a Samsung 650 Plasma TV that I should have in early June. Currently I have a Panasonic DMR-EH75V as my DVD player. According to the manual it upconverts DVD's to 720 and 1080i. Does anyone else have this Panasonic Model with a HDTV, if so how is the up conversion?

Would I be better off buying a Oppo 980 to convert my DVD collection? Would the oppo give me a better picture? I have a lot of DVD instructional videos that I can't upgrade to Blu-Ray, but I would like to take advantage of a better picture up converting the DVD's.

The Pannys are not known for outstanding upscaling, the Oppos are. If you want the max quality for your DVDs, go with the Oppo. The Samsung might even be better at upscaling than the Panny, so try it both ways before deciding on a new player.

Actually, the upscaling of the EH75V is exceptional for a DVD recorder. Much better than their older, or even their newer models. Other owners will chime in and agree I'm sure, if they see this. But the Sammy might still be better.

I just purchased a Samsung 650 Plasma TV that I should have in early June. . . Would I be better off buying a Oppo 980 to convert my DVD collection? No. That Samsung plasma is 1080p. Spend the extra $60 and get the 981HD. It would be a shame to feed it anything less. You won't regret spending a little extra for DCDi.
