Just got a new plasma display and have hooked it up to be cable box using an HDMI cable. Given that the HDMI cable socket on the plasma display makes the cable come out of the back of the display at a right angle, how have other people provide cable strain relief?

I do not have the display mounted on the wall and am concerned that the weight of the HDMI cable (monoprice) will eventually bend the display socket.

On the cable box end, it's not as bad since the cable can rest on the shelf beneath it since the socket is only about 1" off the bottom. On the plasma display, there is at least 20" drop to the first horizontal service.

A simply way is to use a cable tie, either a cord or wire wrapped around the cable and run to the back of the display. If you wrap it around the cable a couple inches from the connector it will not only support the cable but will also tend to keep the cable plugged in.

Just use one of these port savers:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024010&p_id=2891&seq=1&format=2

It's 28AWG, so bends easily.
