My kids still have tons of vhs tapes they like. So I would like to get a good upconverting DVD player with a VCR that allows me to still record shows on the vcr.

Or I guess if it was a recording dvd player with a vcr that would be fine as well.

However I would like to stay in the $100-$150 range if at all possible.

Spend the extra $50 for 1080i HDMI upconversion for both DVD and VHS, DVD-Recording, as well as VHS recording/playback.
