I am having a problem with the kid's dvd player that is just baffling. When playing discs from the Laguna Beach series (yeah, I know it's garbage, but the kid loves it???) the color fades to red then back again to regular color. This happens continually, cycling about once every 15-20 seconds.
I have tried different cables, different dvd players, different tvs, no change .... so, I assumed a problem with the dvd set itself ... but no where has this problem been reported (except at my house!). Also, it is happening with one other TV series ... name escapes me at the moment. Other tv dvds (Friends for instance) work just fine.
I tried this on a Pioneer DV363 and a Sony DVP-NS4000 connected to a Panasonic PV-M2030 tv and an old Toshiba tv. Problem persists.
Is there some problem with older DVD players and newer discs? Copy Protection issue? I'm stumped.
Anyone ever run into this problem before? Or should I just count my blessings?
Update:
After some research, I found that the problem is Macrovision copy protection. The TV has a built-in VCR, so the assumption is that I am trying to copy the DVD. The solution is a box that removes the Macrovision from the signal, or buying a TV without a built-in VCR.
Thanks for looking!
