I want to grab a couple of these but will be out of town that weekend. Any idea if my DVR will let me schedule the recording today even though I don't have access to the channels until the free-view?

are all these movie channels mpeg4 ?....so if a movie is on hbo east/west and 1 is mpeg4 and the other isnt might as well record the mpeg4.

HBO-HD and SHO-HD are MPEG2, but the West feeds are MPEG-4, so make sure and record the Wests

someone on another site posted this:
"The last time i recorded some movies on a free weekend preview they expired within a certain time period and got the "Searching for Authorized content".

someone then posted back and said:
"that because you have to watch for about 30 seconds to not get that."

i never had this problem....did any one else ever ?

I've never had that issue. I've first watched 'free preview' movies months after recording them.

YES, and thank you for reminding me. We had recorded some things on HBO and Showtime right before we canceled those packages. We then tried to watch them a couple of months later, and received that exact message. I'll make sure to play ~30 seconds of the recordings right away this time.

ok...i thought it only happened if the movie crossed the time threshold of the weekend....like if it started 11:00pm sunday but ending 1:00am monday....or whatever the start/end times are for the free weekend.

gotcha, that very well may be too, I didn't pay attention to the specific times. Either way, thanks.

Where do you find this on the directv site? I've just looked around in my acct and don't see it anywhere obvious.

EDIT, nevermind i found it in the guide. I just wish one of my networked HD21-700 was listed as one of my receivers...

Just go to the TV Listings on D*'s site, log in, and then when you click on a title, an option to "Record to Receiver" will be there. As long as your DVR is on your network, it should be there to select.

I'm not even halfway through this Free Preview Weekend and my box has reset multiple times screwing up many recordings. It's nice to know that when you really want to use the HR20, it doesn't get the job done. There are so many things I like about the features on this box, but it needs to reliable record or those features are irrelevant

And my HR10-250 just quietly records everything I tell it to, abeit mpeg2 only.

So stupid!

Peace,

DM

Sorry to hear that. My equipment has the opposite record. The two hr20s have reset very infrequently, and neither has missed a recording.

My HR10-250 (actually both of them), were constantly giving me headaches.

But back to the topic at hand, I was disappointed in the free preview weekend. There was little on to watch all three nights. I was hoping for better choices.

I already receive starz, max, hbo and the encores. And usually I have several choices of what to watch. Slim pickings this weekend. It is as if they know everyone just records everything and then will not have to buy the channel. Dvrs really have changed things.

was the HD Extra included ?

I was able to watch HDNet Movies & UHD, but was not able to watch MGM or Smithsonian ?

I DVR'ed some stuff I was mildly interested in, but nothing fantastic. I'm glad I picked Showtime over Starz when deciding what one and only premium service I would subscribe to... that ghastly orange Starz bug would wreck my whole viewing experience.

... that ghastly orange Starz bug would wreck my whole viewing experience.

Totally agree on that. This weekend was a great way to let me know WHY I don't subscribe to these channels. Premium channel with bug = no sale.

Sometimes they use the more obnoxious logos when they are on preview mode.

Can anyone who actually pays for starz confirm that this is the normal bug?
