I went to a local theater the other day (fairly new construction). I took a close look at the side walls and I could slip my hand behind the fabric, which consisted of strips of vertical fabric (so you could put your hand behind). I felt something and I realized it was 1" Linacoustic! The only thing that surprised me was that the coating was against the wall. Isn't the coating supposed to be out? It is in my basement. I thought it was supposed to be installed that way (based on several posts here). Does it matter or did the local theater get it wrong?

Doesn't matter. Coatings are of no real consequence acoustically. Fiberglass can have it or not.

Movie theaters have been lining their walls with sem-rigid fiberglass for many decades! The film industry invented acoustic treatment for sound movies. :)

Terry
