I am working on the early stages of designing my new theater and have an issue with the ceiling. The overall height of the room is 10'. However, the are angles at the edges that drop the ceiling down to 8 feet. Its on the 2nd story and the angles are there to follow the roof line. A screen wall and an equipment room fix it on the front and back of the theater and the interior wall does not have this problem. The exterior wall is the only one left. It runs the length of the room.
I think 2 foot deep soffits will look bad. Could I build a 1 foot deep soffit from the 10' heigth and leave the rest to an angle? or should I do it from the 8' height?
Looking for ideas and suggestions. The other dimensions of the room are 15' x 25'.
Thanks,

Take pictures of the ceiling and post them. Then more people can visualize your ceiling, and give suggestions.

Sorry for the darkness. We close on the house next Friday. The room looks finished, but I have plans to redo a bunch of it for sound isolation and all the other theater goodies!!!

I see what you are working towards. However, This will only be an issue on one wall. I am building an equipment room at the end of one room and the screen wall will be on the other end. The interior wall is 90 degree with the ceiling. The exterior wall is the only wall that will be a problem.
Thanks,

How about creating a double tray? Come down halfway and over to the angle, then come down again and over again, like stairs. then use crown molding at the top where the soffit meets the ceiling, and again on the edge of the bottom soffit to hide rope light.
here is what a double tray looks like in my master bedroom.
