Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is a big deal or not but I'm in the process of setting up my ht. It just dawned on me that the electrical outlet is about two feet left of where the tv is going to be. The problem with that is there is two studs from where the center of the tv will be to the electrical outlet. Now I know that all the insatller would normally do is use my existing outlet and tie into it and just run it up the wall, no problem. This poses another issue altogether, how is he going to tie into that outlet and run the wire through the studs (this is an existing construction on a slab foundation, two story, no attic). Is this a stopping point before I go any further or do you guys know some ways around this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sean

I'm not sure I understand the question. Are you trying to run electricity from the outlet to the back of the TV through the wall? (I assume it's some type of flat panel that will be hung on the wall?) Is the TV more than 4 feet wide? If so, 2' off center wont' be a problem.

Remove a piece of drywall between the existing outlet and the new location. Really easy to run wires then and not too difficult to fix the drywall, especially if you remove it properly. By using a knife to cut the drywall you can minimize the damage and use a straight edge to cut nice smooth lines. Make sure you cut from the center of one stud on each end to give you something to reattach the drywall. Then replace the drywall after you run the wires, mud and sand, then repaint.

You will have to cut the gyproc to get access to the studs. Then bore holes in the studs and pull the wire with a fish tape. If the outlet happens to be on an exterior wall, it becomes more difficult because of the vapour barrier and insulation.

If you can get into the attic, you may be able to come down the wall and tie into a line in the attic. Be careful to obey code if using a junction box in the middle of an electrical run.

Hope this helps.

You can also use a power bridge or this recessed power kit to get power where you need it. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=105&cp_id=10425&cs_id=1042505&p_id=4652&seq=1&format=2
Especially if you'll a cabinet for your equipment. This will also allow you to connect your tv to a surge protector/battery back up. This also requires minimal drywall cuts and likely no patching.
