I have a new Toshiba DVR (D-R400)
It has S-Video, and Composit Inputs
It has Component, S-Video, Composite and HDMI Outputs

I have a Sony 61" Projection TV (KP-61HS20)
It has Component, Composite, and s-Video inputs (no HDMI)

I have a Cable Box that has pretty much all Outputs with a built in DVR - Motorola (DCT6412 III)

I was planning on connecting the Cable Box to the DVR's Component inputs until I realized the DVR doesn't have Component in.

My next thought was leaving the Cable Box connected to the TVs Component in and connecting the Cable Box S-Video to the DVR, but I am guessing that if one of those outputs is being used from the cablebox, the other output will not work.

The (Super VHS) VCR is only connected to Video in, composit. It would be nice to have it in the loop so that I could transfer old VCR tapes to DVD, but this is not a necessity.

I guess I could connect the DVR to the TV's Composite Outputs right?
The quality is going to suffer, but I would be able to record everything play on the TV correct?

Is there a better connection?

Thanks in advance!!!

Thanks for the links. I haven't had any luck yet.

I have the coax going to the cable box, then component going to the TV.

The DVR is connected to the TV through another set of component cables

I tried leaving the component cable from the cable box to the TV in place and connected an s-video cable from the cable box to the DVR - didn't seem to work.

Then I tried connecting the video and audio out from the TV (RCA) to the DVR , that didn't seem to work either.

To tell if it worked, I set the input on the TV to the DVR component input, and all I got was a No Input message from the DVR. I tried all three input setting on the DVR, all said no input. Input 1 is what it should be.

Anyone see any glaring errors in what I am trying to do here?

Would an Audio Video receiver make this easier?

If so, all of my other components are JVC, is there a Good JVC Audio/Video Receiver?

Thanks again.

I started a new thread because I had stated that my Toshiba was a DVR when in fact it's a DVD recorder.

4 future reference-these terms 'usually' apply, afaik

dvdr = stand alone dvd recorder
dvr = stb (set top box) with hard drive
