I'm looking to get a new TV stand but I'm having trouble finding something that fits the criteria that I need and was hoping someone here might have a suggestion.

I'm looking to upgrade my speakers and receiver but unfortunately the items I'm looking at would not currently fit on my current stand which has prompted me to see if I can replace it with something that will fit the new components.

I'm looking for a TV stand that can hold a 50" LCD Rear Projection tv, has two usable component shelves, preferrably darkened glass, with the top component shelf having 8.5" to 9" usable space and the bottom shelf having 8" to 8.5" usable space. All of this for preferrably no more than about $500.

I've seen some Bell'o stuff that looked good but they just barely don't work on the height of the shelves. I saw something that could do it but it was too wide overall and it cost $1500. I'm at a loss and not sure where to go from here.

For the record, I plan to put the center speaker which is 8.5" in height on the upper shelf, and a new Pioneer Elite SC-07 on the bottom shelf which is just under 8". Other components that will be placed on the shelves is a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, HD-DVD player, and a HD Tivo.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could call around to some of your local wood shops to see what it would cost to having something custom made to your desired specs.

I was in the same situation as you are.
I did not want to put my HK AVR on glass shelves and I did not want to pay $500.00 for my new $1000.00 42" Plasma.
I went to the local Goodwill store and purchased for $34.00 a chest of drawers.
Pulled out the drawers and "instant shelves".
After some stripping and painting, I had a entertainment system that I could fit my, 42" Plasma, AVR, DVD Recorder DVD player, Cablebox, VCR and CD Player.
I spent appox $175.00 total for the whole thing and I love it.
So many posibilities are out there, my next is to get an old credenza and rework that.

You might try this, just a suggestion. I took a 60" unfinished sink base and wrapped the bottom in some oak, to make it look not so like a cabinet. The two center drawer sections, which are false on a sink base come out also. So when I'm ready to put a center channel in there I can. My personal reason for doing this was to keep everything out of sight and to keep little hands from getting to the equipment. With unfiniushed cabinets you can do just about anything you want.

BTW I love my 50" Panny Viera

The only problem with that option is that it puts the TV way too high. That's why most lowboys are around 20" - 24" tall.

That is true our tv does sit up higher, counter height, which is what we wanted to keep little hands off of it. However, sitting about10 ft back you have a nice 15 degree upangle for viewing.

Where are you located? I had for sale on here a very nice, very high end plasma credenza. It is the "Chester" by Elite Manufacturing Corporation. Designed by Nolen Niu. It is in excellent conditoin and (since it is built with an all steel frame) will hold up to a 73" Plasma. It is all steel..so could hold quite a bit weight wise.

We paid over $1200 new for it, and were looking to get $600ish in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.

I'm in Northern CA. That looks nice, but given the height listed, I don't think it will meet the shelf spacing criteria that I need. It says it's 20" high and it looks like there's some space between the ground and the lower shelf which makes me believe that I won't be able to fit a 8.5" speaker on the middle shelf, and an 8" receiver on the lower one. I could be mistaken since it doesn't give shelf dimensions though.

To the other person who posted the wood stand, I was hoping for an open glass shelf rather than something enclosed like that. With the way that the receiver, PS3 and 360 emit heat, I want something with open air flow rather than restrictive like the one you showed. It does look nice, but I don't think it fits my needs.

I'm also in the market for a new TV stand. Got a Pioneer Kuro 151FD on the way, eventually. (that's the 60-inch model)
Cosmetics don't mean much to me. All it needs to be is a sturdy place for the display to rest. Storage would be a plus but is not necessary at all. I also don't need anything very tall, something like a coffee table but maybe with a few inches more height would do fine. I'd *really* like to keep this around $100 if that's at all possible. I know the markup on furniture is exorbitant but I also haven't really priced anything yet.
Any help/suggestions?
