I put together a system to convert my home VHS tapes to digital for viewing convenience and posterity. I am using a Panny professional sVHS deck and 2 detailer/enhancers and then using the Toshiba to do the A-D conversion. Pretty easy and I am very happy with the quality. The editing capabilities ot the Toshiba are acceptable, but I cannot have th3e final DVD display the chapter names, only the Title, line and date next to the thumbnail of each chapter. What am I doing wrong??
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

It is definitely doable. But you need to read the manual, reread the manual, reread the manual and then practice practice practice. The XS55 (and XS54 and really any XS series Toshiba) offers more editing features than anything ever sold in North America. It is outstanding. There is nothing to compare it to. A very sophisticated yet complex machine.
Here is an example of custom chapter thumbnails along with a custom backround done on an XS55. I did not name each chapter but notice they no longer contain the title, date etc. Look at chapter 6 in the pic. The white box. To the right of the custom thumbnail within the white box is where the custom chapter naming information would appear. By the way the white box. It doesn't have to be white. I believe you can drill down during the editing process and make that box any color you would like based on a color pallet screen that is available as an option during the editing process. Not really sure though because I haven't gotten that far. I've only had the machine for 18 months or so. :)

Edit chapter names occurs near the end of the create DVD process. It gets tricky but if you fumble around enough (like I did) you will figure it out.
Always pay attention to the quick menu button on the remote as well as the green (*) button. They open up expanded options on many editing screens.
The thing about the XS series that is difficult for most users is that there are many paths to accomplish many tasks. Many paths. And an almost unbelievable number of editing options. Especially when compared to the simple linear approach all other DVD recorders I have tested offer.
Try this. I'm not near my XS55 right now so this is from memory.
If you know how and where to edit your title name in the DVD creation process then you should be able to drop down to the chapter level at this point. Look at the bottom of the screen. There should be an option to drop down to the chapter level. If I remember correctly you use the green (*) button on the remote. This will open up all existing chapters. And at this point you should be able to edit individual chapter names.
And remember to always check what the quick menu button on the remote offers when in any screen. It offers many short cuts to both editing and navigation options.
