Ladies and Gents,
I by passed the great deal (rebate) on the HC4900 because we just wasnt ready to pull the trigger, as the Daughter and grandson, had yet to move out of the 'home theater to be'.
They are now out! :D and we have spent the last 2 weekends painting (15 gallons of primer, BOY does new drywall suck up paint! + 10 Gallons of 'Top Coat')
my setup is as follows: 20 ft deep room, will be projecting onto an 8 foot wall (Painted white for now, DIY Screen in the future) (110" diagonal)
AC Duct running across the room, which drops down 14" otherwise its an 8' ceiling.
I'm FLEXIBLE to the Screen Size, the 110" diagonal is MAXIMUM I can go.
I'm FLEXIBLE to the Throw (I have easy access to the ceiling to run a dedicated Circuit to) Back wall with wall mount would be 'safest' (hazards of being 6'4" with a tendency to hit my head on things!)
I'm FLEXIBLE on steating distance, we would like to go with 2 rows, with the 2nd row being on Riser. So I am guessing 10-12' back from the sceen for the front row?
Ambient Light *CONTROLLED* Its a basement, with 2 small windows that can be sheilded or hell even painted over!)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/rettinger <----- Floor plan
Paint, get this. I convienced the better half to go NAVY BLUE on the walls, the ceiling is a little lighter being gray (This might change though, if need be)
Veiwing habits:
60% HD via Direct TV, NASCAR, NFL, and NATURE Type STUFF (Gotta love those Meercats!)
30% DVD movies (I can't justify BR-DVD yet)
10% Gaming (If we have money left over, a Wii probably, or a PS3 (less likely, but a possibility).
Now to the meat and potatoes:
720P over 1080P - 720P is fine for our needs
DLP or LCD - The jury is still out on this
Budget $1500 for PJ, if I go any more on the PJ, I'll have to take away from Audio, Gaming system, or keep shining the picture on a white wall until next tax season. We've already figured out for this football season, we'll be sitting in folding lawn chairs ! :(
I would love to see not only recommendations, but also some 'Stay away froms'
Personally I *LOVED* Sony Products, I had a 25" Trinitron for 20 years! However, I had a Sony DVD Player for less that 1 year, and only played about a Dozen movies on it, before it went dead (It was less than $100, so we went out and bought a different 'vanilla DVD player).
So please, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I just need help reducing the options out there. There are SOOOO many! I'm already pretty sure, I'll be buying from one of our supporters of AVSForums, or even AVS itself. So if you are a sponser, or an AVS Member, feel free to Private Message me (if rules allow).
Now I get to kick back on a sunday, with my feet proped up, watching Route 1 Traffic in Delaware back up (Dover Downs International Speedway is 5 miles south of me, ya should see all the rednecks flocking to the NASCAR Track!)
last question: What is 100 foot long, with 10 teeth?
Answer: The Womans restroom line at a NASCAR Race ! ! ! (Sorry all I couldnt resist!) :p
