I'm trying to put a mini-fridge (real one, not the fake ones which must be unplugged every 48 hours) in my home theater room, but I'm unsuccessful locating one. Any suggestions? I only need it to cool up to 8 cans of soda at most.

OK, it has to look cool in a HT room, something like this, but an actual fridge:

Just find and buy the cheapest piece of garbage/junk you can find. I think that is what they call bang for the buck around these parts. Rationale: I only use it for 8 cans of whatever.....

give it a couple of months and start looking for the college sales. Then you will see more variety of mini fridges for college kids, you might get a bargain too.

I bought the Magic Chef fridge from Home depot and it is the biggest piece of crap. I like my stuff REAL cold...Basically ice has to be hanging off the bottle....Magic chef barely keeps the stuff cold.

This might be a long shot, but you could possibly get one from a gas station. I have a friend that got a glass door mini fridge from some random gas station. I think he got it for pretty cheap like $50 (then again he's a ruthless negotiator). Just an option to throw out there.

I bought a Danby from walmart.com and love it. It's spacious, quiet and only cost about $165.

Home Depot will occasionally have closeouts.
Costco has a nice variety.

Franklin Chef makes some very nice ones but they are $$$.

I dunno. I store ice, hot dogs, cheese sauce, chili, beer, wine, jalapenos...
Lots of stuff in mine.

Two words: Scratch and dent.
We got a new HD scratch & dent fridge and saved $$$. Scratch is on the side and invisible to the view.

If you are still looking, I highly recommend this Frigidaire Compact (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=235882-47224-FRT045GM&lpage=none) from Lowes.

The fridge looks great, is very spacious, and the freezer is big enough to hold plenty of ice. It has no problem going to sub-zero temps in the freezer, and (as I found out) it will even go sub-32F in the fridge if you set it too low!

Here are a few pictures of mine, which I just purchased for my home theater lobby on Friday. I'm very pleased with it.

Big freezer:

Almost (50) 12-oz sodas and (6) 24-oz bottles of water are shown here--and there's still room left over:

What nice two door compact! Good price too!

Where'd you get all those popcorn tubs and is that a candy counter!?!? :D More pics of that, please! :)

:D

The candy counter/display unit was purchased from Achieve Display (http://www.achievedisplay.com/retail-display-cases-ev.asp). They are based in Georgia and I got it the day after it shipped (I'm in Florida). The shipping was almost as much as the display case, but it was still worth it. :)

The 170-Oz popcorn tubs (http://www.instawares.com/popcorn-tub-170-oz.gmp-2170rb.0.7.htm) were purchased as a case of (150) from Instawares. I also got a case of 1.25-Oz "pop-open" boxes (http://www.instawares.com/medium-scoop-popcorn-boxes.gmp-2060.0.7.htm) for people who don't want a massive bucket.

I'll be taking lots more pictures of the lobby area and posting them on my home theater page (http://www.twowiresthin.com/ht/) as I wrap up Phase 2 later this week (I just started the lobby project about a week ago, and it's going to be completed in three phases). Here's what remains for Phase 2:

Today the matching stand (http://www.concessionstands.com/s.nl;jsessionid=0a0104451f438a46dd2a11ab42b382b5a3c0c52b04c8 .e3eSbNmQaheLe34May0?it=A&id=21145) for my 6-Oz Paragon Theater Pop (http://www.stargatecinema.com/Theater-6oz-Popcorn-Machine-pr-16279.html) will be here.

Tomorrow the Gold Medal backlit buttery topping dispenser/warmer (http://www.stargatecinema.com/Popcorn-Buttery-Topping-Dispenser-pr-16379.html) will be delivered, along with a bunch of special order "movie theater" candy (http://www.oldtimecandy.com/candy-pix2.htm) than I couldn't obtain locally.

On Friday a case of 32-Oz cups (http://www.instawares.com/sweetheart-jumbo-drink-treated.h32tnjazz.0.7.htm) will arrive (with matching lids (http://www.instawares.com/plastic-cold-cup-lid.sccl32bn.0.7.htm)). Also on Friday some cool retro stuff will arrive, such as an old-fashioned Coca-cola napkin dispenser (http://www.retroplanet.com/PROD/7205), a Coca-Cola straw dispenser (http://www.retroplanet.com/PROD/7204), a very cool popcorn-themed bullet trash can (http://www.retroplanet.com/PROD/25687) and a metal dancing popcorn wall sign (http://www.retroplanet.com/PROD/23044).

Phase 3 will involve more decorative items, such as an illuminated theater sign (that is if I can ever settle on a name for my theater), a stand-up multi-arcade unit and a pinball machine. Actually I just located someone in South Florida who has a "High Speed" pinball machine (circa 1986) in very good shape. I may be making a trip to Miami pretty soon. :)

So are the Maytag Skybox's no more? I was always thinking about buying one of those, but never got around to it. Now it looks like they've been discontinued.

So, you guys with the freezers in your mini fridge. Do they get your drinks REALLY cold? I have heard complaints that the MF with out a freezer do not adequately cool your beverages.

Comments??

I went the built-in route and have never regretted it. Its fairly easy to do when remodeling, but the fridge itself can be pretty expensive. I got a U-Line, which was not cheap. However, it keeps things very cold, is virtually silent and looks nice to boot.
