View Full Version : Would Best Buy allow me to do this? (PS3 Warranty related)

My 40GB PS3 has been locking up quite a bit lately so I was thinking about swapping it out at BB soon. I have the 2 year product replacement plan so I shouldn't have a problem. I thought about the MGS4 bunlde coming out next week and wondered if BB would let me upgrade and pay the difference (I assume BB is going to carry this bundle). I am sure I would have to buy another warranty but I was already planning on buying a dual shock 3 and metal gear 4 next week so the price difference wouldn't be that much. I guess the worst case scenario is that they won't do it and I have to get another 40GB. Anyone have any experiences trying to upgrade at BB with a warranty?

I would think that BB would allow you to do this. I know alot of people did something similar when the Xbox 360 elite came out.

Yes they would because the replacement plan essentially gives you store credit for the original purchase price of the item.

Great! Thanks for the replies. I just hope BB carries them next week. Then I have to hope that I can get one before they sell out. It seems like it won't be that limited though as I have heard it is going to be around for quite some time.

Understand that when they replace it you will need to purchase a new 2 year replacement plan for the new unit. The current replacement plan will have served its purpose.

We had to do the same thing with my friend's 360. He had an old model that quit working. At the time they only had bundled 360's available which was a different sku. They swapped it out but he had to buy a new plan. Even after having to do that, I will only be spending a little over $100 more because I was already going to buy a dual shock 3 and MGS4 next week. I just hope they have some bundles when I go. I think it might be somewhat hard to get at first.

If you tell Best Buy that you are going to buy the replacement plan, they will pretty much let you do anything. It is basically 99% pure profit for them with selling those plans and it's pretty much the most important stat their managers care about.

You shouldn't have a problem as long as the bundle is in stock
