Hi!

My PS3 controller and Bluetooth remote control keep losing sync with the PS3 when its in standby mode. This can't be right. For example, after watching a movie halfway I'll hit stop. Later on in the day when I go to play it again, one or both controllers are unresponsive and I have to do a system reboot for them to sync back up?! Anyone else having this problem?

Ever since Thursday night, I have been losing my controllers. The PS3 cannot be powered on using the PS button, I have to hit the button on the PS3 itself to boot, and once it is up, hit the PS button on the remote.

Even a USB plugged in SixAxis controller will not power on the PS3 with a PS button press on the controller.

Worked Wednesday, and then not Thursday. I've also been having lots of "disconnect" issues to the network as well, which hadn't happened before Thursday, but are happening now...

Very odd indeed. Not that it is a huge issue with the controllers, but is inconvenient to say the least. Now, if I were in the middle of a GTA multiplayer match, and it did the disconnect, I'd be a little hot. Since its never done this before...

I know my PS3 was locking up continuosly because I was using a wireless ethernet connection (a well documented problem). After I turned the wireless off it stopped locking up but the controllers keep losing sync :(

I'll upgrade it to the latest firmware soon but I doubt that's the issue since the updates don't mention controller lockup as an issue.

Holy crap.. I was just about to post this. I've been having the exact same as you guys issue a couple of times this past week.. It's like the bluetooth just quit working.

When it happens for you guys, do all four controller lights blink at the same time really fast on the controllers?

Earlier last week, I was playing the Stranglehold game and the controller stopped working.. At first I thought the controller ran out of juice, but I just charged it the night before and I didn't get any "low battery" warning on the screen.I had to plug in USB cable just so I could get to the next save point and then hard reboot the system.

Something similar happened to me about a week or so ago when playing Burnout Paradise multiplayer, which was pretty annoying.

Just yesterday time I was watching Superman BluRay and I paused it to get a drink and came back, like less than a minute later, the movie wouldn't unpause (I was using the official BluRay remote). Then I tried to use the controller, but it wouldn't respond, either. Only way to fix is do a hard reboot.

I hope they get this fixed in the next FW update.. as it can't be a coincidence it's happening to a lot of people.. it's just annoying..

Guys,
I read this in another post on the net: disable the annoying orange scrolling "Updates" bar on the top right and it won't lockup. That seems to be working for me so far. Try it and post if you're successful with that!

I had the same problem happen a long time ago on my Launch 60 gig. I had to end up backing up my PS3 to external USB. and doing a full system reset. Since then BT issues and controller not syncing has happened again.

Mine's been disabled since the first day it came out with the update. That's not the cause....

Yep. Plugging it in doesn't work. It will grab "Controller One", but as soon as you unplug it, it drops the connection. You have to turn off the PS3, and restart it using the PS button on the controller while it is plugged in (with no other accessories plugged in, btw). Wait until it grabs controller one, then you are good to go.

Mine's a 60, also.

Anyone else?

Oh I forgot to mention mine's a 40 gig.. Got the Spiderman bundle in November and really haven't had a problem like that until recently.

I have a 40gb and I've had it for only 2 weeks. Disabling the update seems to be working so far for me.

Ok, disabling the update feature did not work :(
It still loses sync, especially with the blu ray remote all the freaking time!! Anyone solve this problem?

I've had this problem with my 60GB for well over a year. It also occurs about five to ten minutes after a movie starts (in addition to the system locking up in general).

In developing the ps3toothfairy interface, we did see this occur with the PS3 BD remotes. We concluded that it was either batteries too low / removed in the remote or the PS3 main power was switched off. I am not sure I remember which. However we have never seen it happen with our devices that are running off of "wall power" -- so that leads me to believe it is the remote batteries removed / dead for an extended period of time. But I never saw it happen so many times I could absolutely determine what caused it. We never watch movies -- really just listen to music, navigate XMB, we do have the orange updater running.

Mine stopped again! And disabling updates didnt work. This is getting old quick.

It might be the batteries, although if that is the case, the BD remote is sucking the juice out of energizers in 1 week!!

When you pair up again, how much battery does it say the remote has? It prints it on the pairing screen and also in xmb if you hit the ps button.

My 40gb started to losing sync recently too. It started when I was trying to play GTA IV with the dualshock3. I switched it with the old sixaxis but same problem. I tried reseting the controller with no luck! Now I am playing MGS4 by manually turning on the system and then pressing the PS button on the controller. It gives me about 1-2 hours of play before the controller loses sync. I leave the controller connected to the system while watching blu-ray. I am guessing one of Sony's recent updates messed up the bluetooth. This crap is annoying!:(

How do you turn off the update logo I can figure it out. Says to go to nework settings. But when I do it says no ethernet connected. As I don't have the PS3 on a network or online at all.

Anyone called Sony on this and get an official answer why this is happening? It seems to be happening on all models and firmware versions.

I have three 40 gb PS3s, and this has happened to me dozens of times on one specific unit. It happens to be the oldest of them, purchased in late Oct. 07. It does it with every controller I have paired up with it, three being Sixaxis and four Dualshock 3s. After I lose sync (doesn't matter in standby or playing a game/movie), I have to go through re-sync it in a specific way to get it to pair up again. I have to power down, plug in the USB, power it up with the button on the unit, then unplug it after half a minute or so. Of course, this may take a few tries, but it's the only way I can get it to pair up again. I think it is that specific PS3, since I have tried many things to make it happen on the others with no luck. I think my warranty is up in September, so I may call SONY to get it fixed before possibly gets worse.

just to update: mine's been fine since my post above. I even let the controller run down the charge to where the warning came up on the screen. No problems. Hopefully, it was fixed with the last update...

This happens to me a decent amount on my 40gb; it's usually after I haven't been using the controller for awhile. I also lose communication sporadically w/ my IR USB remote - have to unplug and replug the IR receiver.

Im telling you guys.. Back up the PS3.. do a full reset on the hardware. Format the HD and reload from back up. It cleared up my BT sync issues with my launch 60gig, and this was well over a year ago.

this has been an issue with the 60GB model since the beginning. I've got a 60, i've always had random problems with bluetooth not working, full resets have not ever made any difference. If you plug a usb cable in and hold the PS button down for about a minute, it'll sync up.
It's weird, I can go a few days without it happening at all, then i'll go for a week or so without being able to sync the controller to the ps3 at all without the usb cable.

Same exact problem here. I've had my PS3 for 7 months and never had an issue like this. The other day I used it just fine and put it away with a USB charge going as usual. The next day (yesterday) I went to pick it up - and just 4 quick blinking lights. If I plug it into the PS3 it works fine but the sec I remove it it starts flashing again. I tried the pinhole reset and it doesn't help. What else can be done? Certainly this should not require a complete backup and restore??

Maybe it's the crack I've been smoking.. But since my full backup and restore (advice from Sony Tech support) I've had no issues with BT drops. or loss of connections or sync problems..But then again..maybe Im high.

I"m having the same issue, I may have to try the backup/restore thing as the loss of sync is really starting to become bothersome.

I finally called Sony on this today and they are supposedly sending me a coffin to send in my PS3 for repair..
We'll see how it goes. The problem has become progressively worse in the past couple of firmware updates.

I'm having the same exact problem as many of you detailed here. I finally decided to call Sony today. See this http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=15010479#post15010479 for a full description.

Sinistar83 - did the repair of your PS3 solve the issue? Or did you have the same problem when you got it back? If it did indeed resolve it, have you had any sync issues since?
