Hi everyone.
I plan to go to NY in July to buy some Home Theater stuff (that is, if I get the visa), including a new projector, probably the HC1500.
I've been scouring the TSA site for any info, but it does not say a word about projectors:
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
And given the fact that TSA officials don't seem to be technology-savvy (A guy with a Macbook Air lost his flight because they could not believe it was a laptop), I fear they could mistake the HC1500 for some kind of doomsday device. Last year my parents brought me my IN72 from NY, but the IN72 doesn't have sharp edges as the HC1500 does... (Remember, the TSA thought a Macbook Air was dangerous)
So... does any of you have any concrete experiences?

Ups?
UPS does have offices in Guayaquil but it's way too expensive... In fact, it's so expensive that I prefer to go myself to NY, say hi to my family and visit the MoMA while I'm there.

I imagine that a lot of guys are taking the smaller business projectors with them (I did pre-9/11) so just tell them it's a projector you used for your presentation. It would help your argument if it was in a business case, rather then a cardboard box (fold and put in suitcase).

I've carried 4 projectors overseas (including a HD1000u - look-alike to your HC1500 (good choice, btw)) and it's fine. They see projectors a lot. The Air thing was an anomaly and overplayed due to the hype factor surrounding Apple.
I don't think you even need to make up a story about using it for any presentation. It's less alarming and distinctive than a MBA, I suppose.

Thank you, I'll avoid wearing battery-operated T-shirts in front of TSA officials...

...and carrying Thinking Putty with me...

...and of course, I'll avoid carrying these hand warmers...

...and wearing this bag as a carry-on:

...but I digress. Any other experiences with projectors and airport security?
