View Full Version : Costco $40 OFF Panasonic DVD/VCR Combo
Bill1313 06-02-08, 07:51 PM June 23 - June 29 Costco has a $40.00 off Coupon on the Panny DVD/VCR Recorder that comes with an HDMI Cable. The coupon was in a book mailed to the house but you can pick one up in any of their stores. The Item Number is 290022 but it's not listed on Costco's website yet so I don't know the final price but if it's anything like the other Panny closeout deals the price will be unbeatable.

Offer still good. I actually was mailed 2 coupon books, that's never happened before.

Might they be desperate to unload some turkeys?
:D no that would be the EZ-47s, I think the EZ-48s are a bit better:cool:
The coupon is only good for the EZ-48
Bill1313 06-03-08, 10:06 AM jjeff, How do you know it's the 48 because the coupon book doesn't list the model number & by any chance do you know how much they will be with $40.00 Off? Thanks.
I also received 2 Coupon books in the mail, one last week & one this week, & I thought it might be because I have another family member listed on my membership on my card? but both books did come in my name.
Interesting that we both got 2 books, maybe Digado's on to something:D but seriously the picture on the coupon is a EZ-48 (from what I can tell) and my Costcos haven't had the '07 EZ-47 for several months. In my area the EZ-48 goes for $269 at Costco and I've never seen them raise the price when a coupon is good so I would assume the after coupon price would be $229, or the retail price of the VHS less EZ-28, and the EZ-48 would include the HDMI cable. Like I said, one hell of a deal if you're in the market for one.
Personally I just don't need another DVDR, but if I did........ Like I've noted before you can't argue about the PQ on these new EZ machines, that is if you try and not extend the recording time.
Bill1313 06-03-08, 12:12 PM So it could be the EZ47 if Panasonic is cleaning out their warehouse & dumped them all to Costco.
The only reason I'm saying this is because back in March Costco had the 42 inch Panny plasma model TH-42PZ700U which also had a $200 OFF Coupon & it wasn't a model that Costco carried it was a model that Panasonic sold to Costco to clean out their warhouse for the new models that's why I think it could be the EZ47 & maybe going for a great price like $159.99 with the $40.00 off coupon.
The 42" PZ700 plasma had been going for around $1,600 at closeout at CC, BB & etc & with the $200 OFF Coupon it was only $1,099.99 so I guess will just have to wait until June 23rd when Costco lists it on their website because the Panny PZ700 din't show up on their website until the day the sale started.
I know the EZ47 is buggie but what do you think about it for around $150.00?

Bill, you may not have spend that much if you want to try a refurb. I bought a few Z27s from BestBuy Private Store and Auction site really cheap and they have been OK for me.
They sell a ton of the Pannys and have started having the "8" series (both 28 and 48).
You need to "belong" to the site, so I'd send you an invitation if you want to check it out. I just need your email address which you can PM me if want.

Bill I know that exact Panny Plasma. I was only one mouse click away from ordering one. When I went to order it, it went out of stock and no stores in my area had any left. It was a very good deal for sure. When I was in the store looking they had one left but I had forgot my coupon book and they wouldn't give me one from the customer service desk. They "said" they were all out. Later that day they sold the last one I was looking at and online went out of stock too:(
On the DVDR front I called Costco and they said indeed the coupon is good only for the EZ-48. They were able to look up the number listed on the coupon.
I never had a EZ-47 but did have a EZ-27 and 5 EZ-17's. They were all new and all died with U99 errors. Personally I could never suggest a EZ-x7 machine but it depends on how lucky you feel. All my failures were during scheduled timer events to good -RW discs. Even though the failures were on -RW discs I wouldn't be too quick to blame them. It's just that -RWs were about all I used on my EZ-x7 machines. I wasn't using RAMs then and would use my ES DVDRs for line in recording to -R discs.
If it were me I would consider $229 after coupon a very good deal for a DVDR w/VHS of the quality of the EZ-48 but I'm sure the sub $200 price of a EZ-47 it's very tempting indeed.
Bill1313 06-03-08, 08:15 PM jjeff, Yep the Panny plasma was a great deal & I got one for my daughter for her bedroom. Too bad you din't grab the last one in the store because you could have brought the coupon back later & even if you lost the coupon all you probably would have had to tell them was give me the $200 off the TV or I'm going to bring it back & you'll be stuck with an open box item.
The new Panny 42" PZ800 is a really nice tv but I don't think it's worth $800 more than what I paid for the PZ700 from Costco especially for a tv that was going in the bedroom for casual viewing.
As for the recorder I was also thinking of getting it as a spare for my daughter just to take some pressure off her ES30 so she doesn't ware it out & she would'nt be using it to dub VHS tapes just to watch them once in a while & timer record programs to RAM discs to watch later & to make dubs of her store bought dvds with her Sima copyguard remover. She would be hooking it up to her Panny PZ700 plasma though.
rgazzara 06-04-08, 08:28 AM The Best Buy Outlet store on eBay has been auctioning EZ-48 DVD/VHS recorders that have been going for $130-175.
If you are interested in one of these recorders, it might be worthwhile to check it out.
Church AV Guy 06-10-08, 07:13 PM I have never bought a non-HDD DVD recorder, but I am intrigued by this and might just give it a whirl. If I don't like it I can return it, and using -RAM disks it might prove quite useful. Also, I might have something current to talk about as all my stuff is getting pretty old, but staying very useful--not current.
vferrari 06-10-08, 07:25 PM Church AV Guy,
Just a reminder that I don't think the RAM discs you record in the 48 will be high speed dub compatible in the EH75V (though you will be able to at least transfer the content on them to the EH75's HDD, you just won't be able to subsequently high speed dub that dubbed content to write once media).
Church AV Guy 06-11-08, 03:55 PM Thanks for the head's up. I wasn't aware of that restriction. I *DO* remember from some time back a discussion about this, but I had forgotten it until now. It has to do with the "HS DUB" setup option not being present in these non HDD machines, right? At the time many were upset that the option was not present, and I guess it has never been added. I would have been unpleasantly surprised. Now if I do it, I won't be surprised. It won't be any more pleasant, but not a surprise. :)
Just looked at Costco website, They have a Sony dvd recorder/vhs for $230 shipping included!

Becareful with these. I was in the store looking at them and they have no tuners in them and they can only record from the RCA and Svideo inputs. It appears their main function is to be connnected to an external cable or satellite tuner.
Bill1313 06-23-08, 10:29 AM Price on the Panasonic EZ-48 Combo with the $40.00 OFF Coupon is $239.99 & is good through Sunday June 29TH. It also can be ordered on line with FREE Shipping.
Church AV Guy 06-24-08, 11:53 AM Yes, the week of this coupon being valid has started. I guess I don't really see a buying frenzy, well, at least not yet.
Church AV Guy 07-01-08, 05:51 PM Did anyone here take advantage of the opportunity? There was a very large stack of these at the local Costco this week. I don't know if many of them were sold or not. BestBuy had them for $299, so $240 sounds like a pretty good offer.
No one took me up on my offer for extra coupons. Seemed like a good deal though. Their were stacks of them at Costco yesterday.
