View Full Version : PSP Game Questions
TornadoTJ 06-02-08, 10:50 PM 2 new games that I'm struggling to find info on. Beats there's almost nothing for, I can't tell what it is other than it makes games out of your MP3s. I can't tell what the gameplay is like at all.
The second is LocoRoco. Anyone played this? Would it be fun for a 10-12 year old?
bdoyledimou 06-02-08, 10:55 PM dont know anything about beats, but my 10 year old loves Locoroco..
TornadoTJ 06-02-08, 11:05 PM Thank you! Some of the games we've gotten lately get too complex too fast for her, the latest being Patapon. It's not that she's not intelligent (she is) but she has a short attention span. She gets frustrated and quits easily.
TornadoTJ 06-02-08, 11:08 PM Whoops, left one off, Neopets.
TornadoTJ 06-03-08, 12:09 AM I grabbed Beats since it's only $6. It's fun, daughter will love it I predict. Haven't figured out how the "download" function works yet, as there's no manual.

I didn't look up specifically how the download function works, but in Beats and in other games, they now come with a manual embedded. In the XMB, when you get to the game, instead of hitting X to launch it, hit the triangle button to get the options menu. Some of the software now has "Software Manual" as the last option. Its even present on some UMD games, such as Patapon.
TornadoTJ 06-03-08, 12:20 AM Ah, thank you, I didn't know that. I use the PSP mostly to playback movies, DVR content, to remote the PS3 playback and to have a mobile DVR player. My 10 year old daughter is the game player. I try to have an idea of how a game works before I hand it to her, because occasionally she will have a question.
Anyway, thanks, I'll check that out. :)
TornadoTJ 06-03-08, 12:22 AM Ugh... yea, there's a manual... Select the manual and it simply says "refer to the in-game tutorial". The tutorial has nothing in regards to any of the online functions.

That's hilarious. I didn't even notice that. Funny how some stupid game like Ape Quest (I downloaded the sample game a while back) has a 23 page online manual and for Beats you get essentially nothing. Not quite sure why they even bothered putting it there.
TornadoTJ 06-03-08, 12:30 AM BTW, I'm still interested in opinions on the others. I've been wanting to get her some more games. Thanks!
jojo311 06-03-08, 12:51 AM In case you'd like to sample Locoroco, there is a demo available for it (although its not listed at store.playstation.com). If you point the PSP browser to psp.us.playstation.com and then follow some links, you can download it directly to your memory stick. Otherwise, there is a sticky thread at Gamespot's forums and presumably other forums on available demos and instructions and links so you can download it from your computer.
For other games, Lumines is a great puzzle game that doesn't require a big initial learning curve but can be difficult to master. Also, my 10 year old son played through parts of Daxter and seemed to enjoy it (its a platformer plus a series of minigames that can be unlocked). Those two should also be available for about $20 since they are relatively old. Also, Lego Indiana Jones should be released really soon; my 10 year old loved Lego Star Wars (albeit he played it on a console).
TornadoTJ 06-03-08, 05:10 AM Thank you, I will get the LocoRoco demo! That seems to be the best way for us to try them.
We rented Patapon and she liked it, but it got so hard so fast that now she's stuck.
She's having the same problem with Daxter. We got the Daxter/PSP pack.
We put Spyro (PS1 game) on the system and she likes it so far.
She played Lego Star Wars in a store and liked it. That's an idea...
