Yesterday's 2-hour tribute to Placido Domingo on HDNet was like a gourmet feast for a starving man. It's been a long while since an opera program this good has appeared anywhere in HD.
The program featured tenor Placido Domingo, soprano Patricia Racette, and the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra conducted by James Conlan. The ambitious program ranged from Spanish, German, French, Italian, and Russian opera arias to Broadway showstoppers. The L.A. Opera orchestra, which was superb, performed some short orchestral numbers in between. Placido and Patricia displayed their incredible range of talents, and even added some acting and clowning to the mix. The program ended with four encores !
If you like opera and missed this program, you might want to kick yourself. :D
