I’m looking to buy my new TV, speakers, and sub as soon as I can get my hands on the PDP5020, and need some help with the sub placement. I’ve put up my room layout with dimensions here:

A couple of notes:

1) The TV location has to remain where it is
2) There is 40” by 90” of open space above the half-wall, and then
36” by 120” of open space for the entrance, other than that, the room is enclosed
3) I plan on doing the “crawl around” method once I have the sub, but I’m always interested in hearing the opinions of the experts on here

I am thinking about putting the sub in either the SE corner or the SW corner behind the chair. How much of a difference will it make if I remove the chair? (chair is not essential to the room layout) Is the SE corner too close to the open space?

The largest sub I can get (WAF factor) is the SVS SB12-Plus. I’m not looking to shake my room too much, just want great bass for home theatre. The awkward room layout means I will only be getting a 3.1 system.

As I said, I’ll do the crawl around method when I buy, but thought I could throw this out for opinion until I can actually purchase these things (the wait is killing me)!

I'll take all recommendations under advisement, and those that are correct after the crawl around method will have bragging rights! :)

Cheers in advance for any info/opinions.

I'm a guy that likes my subs close to my front mains for a variety of reasons that I won't go into right now. If I were you, I'd try three areas: The corner behind the TV, the area between the TV/speakers and the fireplace, or the area between the TV/speakers and the chair. Behind the TV would get you the most output, but not necessarily the best frequency response. You will find that by trial-and-error.

Thanks for the input. My wife would be ecstatic if I could put the sub behind the TV, and the SVS I'm looking at would fit, so that will definitely get consideration. The TV stand would be in the way of the sub, but I don't think that affects the sub output, right? Is your sub out-front or behind the TV?

Anyways, I've noted one vote for behind the TV!

I actually have four subs spread across my front wall. My TV is not across a corner like yours. The TV stand shouldn't be a problem unless it rattles.

Behind the chair in the corner.

Behind the chair in the corner.

Any reason for that bsoko2? The two ideal places for the sub would be behind the TV or behind the chair, as it keeps the sub out of view. I'm curious to see where it sounds the best when I do the crawl around.

Voting:

Behind The TV - 1
Behind The Chair - 1

Thanks for your help!

For better base for HT why not a 20-39 PCi behind the tv?
Waf factor would be high if it's out of sight. If there's room? More sub for HT & co$t less

My room is slightly smaller than yours, but not by much. I have my screen placed on your west wall where the window is. Two rows of theater seats. Room is a dedicated theater. I see your rear wall is a half wall. This may make a difference in the placement I am suggesting.

With that being said, I have been playing with placement and found the best position for my satisfaction is in the Southeast corner of your room. Lots of bass compared to anywhere else in my room. If you can move your sub around with temporary cabling and try different positions, that's the way to go.

Are there end tables on both sides of the couch? I would look to put the sub on the east end of the couch and get it near both measures LPs. If there isn't an end table, why not look at some of the end table size subs?
