I need to record a computer monitor display digitally. Normally I would install software or a DVR card on the home computer but in this case the computer is used clinically and I will not be able to modify it. What I can do is split the output coming from the home computer. Are there any DVRs that take VGA as an input? Alternatively, is there a way to use the VGA signal as an input into a com port in another computer where I could use a DVR card? Thanks for any information you can provide.

I guess that you are trying to use a "standard" NTSC DVR to record from the VGA output of a computer. The issue really is that the VGA signals are not compatible with NTSC. BUT, you can get a "scan converter" that will take the VGA signals and convert them to NTSC and record that. Typical scan converters will provide an input for VGA from your computer, and output to feed the monitor and video out to feed your DVR.

Thank you for the help but I think I've found the perfect solution. The Epiphan VGA2USB looks like it was designed to solve exactly my problem. It switches the analog VGA signal to digital and then allows me to capture the signal on another computer, perfect!
