View Full Version : SVS PB10-NSD or eD A2-300: another budget sub question

I am in the process of piecing together a sound system for a dedicated theater. Thanks to much reading on these forums, I have everything but the sub. In the beginning, I was looking at the BIC H-100, but soon moved on to bigger and better. After hearing a friend's SVS PB10-NSD, I knew I needed something more powerful than the H-100.

I've seen the Craigsub rankings for the eD A2-300 and the SVS PB10-NSD (pretty even) along with the response curves. Again, pretty even with the eD looking to be bit louder.

So I am wondering if anyone has any direct comparisons they could share between the two. I prefer the looks of the SVS, but the price of the eD more than outweighs the appearance preference. I am mostly looking for opinions on the differences in sound.

**Edit**
Forgot to add room and equipment information...

12' x 15' closed room. ~1,359 cu/ft
Yamaha RX-V663
Polk Monitor 50 mains
Polk R150 surrounds (4x)
Polk csi3 center

If you're considering the pb10 that means you have enough money for it, and if you do, I'd get the a3-300 which should be about same with shipping factored in. a3-300 with an upgraded driver will definetely be a step up from either of those.
But between those two, a2-300 would be my choice.

Nobody heard both pb10 and a2 I would bet.

i have the PB10. it can go to 20hz and in your small room would be great IMO.

I have two PB10's and I truly enjoy both their output and sound quality. However, I've heard nothing but good things about the A2-300 as well. I doubt you could go wrong either way. Since I have personal experience with the PB10's I can heartily recommend them, but if you're on a tighter budget, I think the A2-300 would probably be pretty comparable, losing only in looks to the PB10. It would be great to see a head to head comparison of the two. Unfortunately, they're both budget subs which makes it unlikely that one person would own both of them. Good luck, and again, either way I think you win :).

Just a little added bonus to consider. All newly shipping A2-300's are getting a new LT-200 amp, that according to Chris @ eD is capable of up to 50 watts more RMS. This is a nice bonus that could push the A2-300 past the PB10-NSD and at no additional cost. Sale on the A2-300 is still good for at least another month according to Chris. :) Mine is on the way this week...Yeah!!!

Yes, they all get the new ones.

Honestly, as for differences, not much other than a bit more power(they all do 225+ on the bench with most hitting around 250RMS @ 4 ohms).

Well that and this:

All things equal I would buy the one that ships first

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Since performance is comparable (without having heard both), I decided to go with price over looks. The amp upgrade on the A2 is certainly a bonus, making the deal a bit sweeter.

Maybe at some point down the road I'll be able to collaborate with the friend of mine who has the PB10 and get a good comparison review written up.

That would make a lot of people happy around here I'm sure. Enjoy the A2!

Sweet! I'm sure you'll love the A2-300. We eagerly await your impressions...and if you could get together with that friend and compare both subs in the same room, that would be awesome as well.

Excellent news OhioMike, that makes me all the more glad I have one coming this week too...

Mine got shipped with the older amp. I am thinking about ordering a second a2-300.. I just need to sell my dual dayton sub100s.. I loved my daytons but the ed just crushes them with no remorse.. I listen to a lot of metal the ed keeps up with the blastbeats and double bass drums easily.

I have the A2-300 with the 200 watt amp too and when I move this August and have more room I'm seriously thinking about getting a 2nd A2-300 too. Not that I am underwhelmed by what just one does, but 2 just sounds so appealing lol.

What are those isolators you have the sub mounted on?

LMAO! You should include that phrase in the detais and accesories page!

"All subwoofers come with free isolators to acoustically mount your sub to reduce hardwood reflections!"

HAHA!! :p

Those saved me some cash I would have had to spend on a subdude.. Thanks ED =)

That's some brutal foam btw. You should make foam weapons with that stuff and ship a random weapon with each powered subwoofer purchase.

Old thread bump, anyone have anymore input on these two? I currently have a PB10-ISD and am bouncing between adding a second, or for a similar cost, buying 2 a2-300's and moving the PB10 to another room.
