I have encountered a problem mounting my 50" Samsung plasma using a Sanus VMPL50 mount. The mount is roughly 30" wide which seems to be pretty standard. My wall studs are 24" wide. I want my tv perfectly centered horizontally on my wall.

The problem is that attaching the mount to two studs will cause my tv to be horizontally off-center of the wall, where I wanted a perfect horizontal centering of my set. The bracket attachments on the back of my tv are pretty wide apart, only giving me about 4" of horizontal sliding room, nowhere near enough to get the TV centered on the wall.

I have searched the net and see that the Sanus VMPL3 at $250 offers an optional extender at another $50. Is this my only option?

I was wondering if I could attach the mount to one stud with two bolts (top and bottom) and use a number of toggle type bolts to secure the rest of the mount? My tv comes in at just under 100#. I'm not sure if this is recommended or not?

Thanks everyone for the help!

Either use this extender or cut out your drywall and add blocking then patch. It will be pretty much hidden so even if your drywalling skills are sub-par, no biggie.

Don't use toggle bolts !
