Hello all -
So I am putting together a theater room in my house. approx. 17x19ft.(ish)
Complete control of all light
I watch more HDTV/HD Sports than movies
I currently have a 60" Sony SXRD XBR2 (This may show you what kind of "picture" I tend to like)
I have done a lot of reading on multiple threads and multiple sites. All excellent information. I have "softly" decided on the following. I ask for anyones input and advise as it is so difficult to trust a dealer, already i have been lied to.
Epson 1080UB
Carada 106" Criterion
I guess the only question I have is; will regret not getting a higher priced PJ?(ie JVC RS1x, Sony VW60)
Does anyone else have this set-up? care to give any opinions/thoughts.
thank you.
very confused

Yeah... sucks don't it... you gotta make the best decision you can...
Bottom line you gotta go with whats best for you "environment" throw distance, space, money, etc...
as far as regrets... proably...
Gotta run... sorry...
From everything I've ready, you shouldn't regret teh 1080 UB, but I haven't actually seen it myself yet. however if you can afford the JVC, I'd say go with that.
How/why did you pick that screen?

I picked that screen solely based off of a few reviews. Seemed to be the best bang for the buck. I'm certainly open to additional suggestions.

Sorry, I had to go...
Honestly getting started can really be difficult and confusing, at times...
you really just have to narrow it down... some much is based on personal bias... some guys HAVE to have the absolute best abc and xyz features, others just think they do...
Your in the states right???... just try to find a local retailer that has the pj you want and ck it out for yourself... when I was doing my research one of the ones that ranked high on my list, was being used in the break room at cc... the floor guy mentioned it to me...
I didn't get it, and it was way cheaper than the one I actually got and technically "better"... I actually bought one based mainly on a few of the features vs. most people go for all pq...
My biggest advice is... do the research as solid as possible... eveybodies set up is a bit different... and if you own vs. rent make a difference too... my living room is proably way more different than everyone in here, just because of where I live... plus little nothing stuff can create a change in plans... like the studs in the celing, messed me up in one rental... my current rental I can't even mount on the ceiling... but all the small things are usually fixable...
Don't worry too much with the details right now... narrow it down (like you have) and move on to the next important item... then the next... etc... screen/mounting/space/couch distance/wires/whatever... just do it one at a time...
and remember that peoples opinions are just that, opinions... not facts... and most are bias in some way shape or form...
What I ususally do... I find all the reviews I can and skim a couple of the good ones... but I read ALL of the bad reviews... and look for trends... and decide if I can deal with it...
I bought my sony vpl hs3 a few years ago, I came into some money in grad school... and a few (just very a few) people swore that I was making a mistake... and honestly I had a little doubt when I bought it too... but I have been in several rentals in South Texas and St. Croix and have never had a regret, not in the least... I got everything I needed, wanted, and at the price I could afford...
I won't say Good Luck with your choice... just do the resarch as solid as possible...
The 1080UB is a good projector, but if you want the same type of picture that you currently get with the Sony SXRD set then go with the JVC. The JVC uses the same type of system LCoS. Another thing that I would keep in mind. PhatLight (new lighting system) is going to make a big change in the industry. With this technology you will not have to change out a bulb and the colors are improved. The only question is when will these be available?

Another option is the Sony VW-40 which is also SXRD and closer in price to the Epson.

Excellent suggestion.
