View Full Version : Sonic Impact T-Amp subwoofer connection

I've read it's possible to connect a subwoofer to a T-amp, but I'm confused how. My subwoofer (Klipsch) has speaker in connections, but no speaker out, so I can't run my speakers from the subwoofer. Since the T-amp only has 1 left and 1 right speaker outs, how is this done?

This question should make it clear that I'm a complete greenhorn at these things. I previously had my B&W 302 bookshelf speakers and the Klipsch sub woofer connected to a Yamaha receiver with a sub-out. But I want to use these in a room where I don't have room for the receiver, so I was thinking of getting a t-amp. But I really like the sound of the subwoofer so I don't think I want to loose that.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Is the sub powered? If not, the T-amp is probably unsuitable.
If it is, does it have 2 or 4 speaker input terminals? If 4, you can probably parallel the main speakers with each channel on the sub. This also assumes there is a crossover in the sub.

how would this affect the impedance seen by the t-amp?

The speaker in of the sub is very high impedance so the total impedance on the T-Amp will not really change.

You can try it for yourself, assume your speaker is 8 ohms, and your sub is 10,000 ohm input,
enter those two values here: http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-paralresist.htm

For the original poster, Kal is right, you run another set of wires to the sub from the T-Amp, so there will be two wires coming out of each L and R terminals (four wires in total)
This is exactly what I did and it worked flawlessly.

Hey, thanks for the quick replies! The sub is powered and has 2 speaker inputs (well 4, Red and Black each for Left and Right). So you just run 4 wires. It couldn't be simpler.

Now I just have to decide if I want to pull apart my home theater set up since I'm not watching any movies since there's no time with 2 kids under 3yrs old. My other option is to buy a set of audioengine A5s for my living room.

Choices, choices. But the information you guys gave is very helpful. So thanks.
