Well, someone hacked the LG's dual player, I am sure this could be done for the Sammy as well. Hang in there, it'll happen
..although, you may want to change the post, because I got excited there for a moment. It sounds like someone had done it... ;)

might want to put a question mark on your poast as it looks like you made the 5K region free.

As far as I know, no one has made thier player region free. I dont think at this point anyone wants to risk bricking thier system for a chance to get the region free use. I know I for one dont want to risk it.....

If you want to try you can always try the codes over at VCDHELP for Samsung players to see if they work, but as always YMMV and if you brick your machine you will most likely be SOL......

What's SOL?

Unfortunately, this thread will be nice and misleading for days to come...as the only people who can change thread titles are mods. ;)

I was actually able to change the title of my thread after I created it....I had to click Edit my post then "Go Advanced " and you should be able to edit the title.....

AFAIK no one has tried the LG SD-DVD Multiregion hack on the Samsung:

You never know.

I think you can only do it for a certain amount of time. I had to e-mail the mods when I wanted the LG BH200 Mini-FAQ thread changing. I was able to change it using the Advanced Mode but that didn't change the one shown in the main forum list.

Just a FYI. Before set to try all those region free hacks, I have to point out that Samsung DB-UP5000 can not even play any region-free PAL discs at all. So, unless we have a firmware that can support PAL play back, hacking it region free will still be useless.

Yes, someone did try your hack and it didn't work. Usually region hacks are manufacturer specific rather than chipset specific. Typically, Samsung DVD player hack requires the use of certain brand of remote (AWIA) that can't be found on the market anymore. Ppl have posted instructions about how to use a universal remote to simulate that kind of remote and procedure to do region free hacks. Not sure if it works in 5K. Details can be found on http://vcdhelp.com

One of the LG hacks adds PAL support.

To clarify it's only North American versions that don't also support PAL but regardless a SD DVD MR hack would still be useful for non-R1 NTSC DVDs.

Fair enough. In this case it's not a manufacturer hack but a Generic one for LG models or Universal of sorts. The LG Engineer told me that. Basically I don't think it's "just" for the LG BH100/BH200.

I remember those hacks. There were also some that could be done using the remote.

It would be worth a try, if possible.

Ph8te,

That sounds exactly like all other Samsung DVD player hacks. You didn't mention what remote to perform such hacks. IIRC, it has to be a specific AWAI remote, not Samsung remote.

There won't be any harm trying it. It will either work or nothing will happen.

I think it is already posted in original thread that this did not work for BD-P1400 North American version of the player.

Didnt see one, Ive seen reports that it didnt work on the 1400 US, but I have seen reports that it does work so its worth a Shot.........

Brad, remember that even though we share the same chipset the manufactures have their own specific software stack loaded on these chipsets that amke them different. This is most likely why we see the differences betwen the two players....

I am not really into region hacking as all I have is 1 UK disc, and I have a region free DVD player that can play it......Just wanted to give people another avenue to try...It was a long shot, but another possibility.....From what I have read there are "dual" region 1400s coming out of Sweden....

Thanks. I know that though :).

All I said was it won't do any harm to give it a try . Have you tried it btw? Someone needs to :D.
