Something very strange happened to me. I brought my ps3 over to my brother's house to play some games with him. He has a 60" SXRD A2000. He has 1 hdmi port going from tv to comcast box and 1 going from tv to dvd player. So i unplugged the dvd hdmi and put the ps3 one there. Blank screen, but i had sound. Luckily i had downloaded about 13 game demos so i just kept scrolling until i recognized the sound from Grid or whatever and then i clicked x. After it went into game, screen pops on, with fine visuals. Go back to XMB, NO SCREEN.

W.....T....F??

And i brought it home that night and hooked it back up to my tv, a 50" sony sxrd a2020, and it worked perfectly, XMB and all.

Oh and when i left his house i replugged his dvd player in and put a dvd in....works fine. What do you guys think happened? I tried 2 different hdmi cables, but i guess i didnt trying hooking it up by component. Anyways, i could not figure this out and wonder if something freakish was happening. Oh and the comcast box was NOT working that night. We were just either getting a blank screen or a green screen but we've had that happen before with the comcast box.

Did you hold down the power switch on the front for 5 seconds so it could auto-configure to the tv? If yours is 1080p, and his is 720p, you wouldn't see anything on screen without resetting to the current television.

Yeah, it sounds like you had your PS3 set to a higher resolution than his TV would support. games of course use their own resolution - usually 720P, but then exiting to the XMB would return to the highest resolution set.
If you power off with the switch in the back, then hold the on/off spot while you turn the switch back on - keep holding for 5 seconds or so until it beeps. That will reset the video output.

thanks for the input guys. sorry i was gone all weekend out of town. Both are tv's are 1080p and my ps3 is set to 1080p. So that can't be the problem. Its gotta be the stupid comcast box but it's crazy because we have replaced the one in his basement 2 or 3 times....

i just have NO CLUE why the ps3's XMB wouldn't show up on his tv and then work fine on mine. But when i listened to the sounds and then clicked on the game, i could see and play the game...../boggle

Maybe his cable box can't throughput 1080p?

no, b/c his comcast works most of the time. only sometimes does it go to green screen. i just think it's a random malfunction.

Well the comcast box would be 720p or 1080i not 1080p. Id try the powerthing or simply set the the PS3 to 720p/1080i on your set then hook it up.
