Either sub is a good performer, you won't go wrong with either

I've only heard the VTF-3.2, which is essentially what the new 2.3 is. It really is an excellent sub for both movies and music. Based on that experience and the SubSeries 6i's specs and price, I would absolutely choose the VTF-2.3.

Thanks guys..... I was REALLY hoping someone has heard both and has first hand knowledge, but I know that's a lot to ask.

Anyone using the SubSeries 6i? It seems like PSB was a big performer a couple years ago, but most of the info I find on them is a little dated now. David at DMC-Electronics is ready to ship the PSB package, but I'm a little nervious about spending that much money. I don't want to make a bad decision.

*** I'm REALLY tired of reading and searching for info on EVERYTHING (Plasma, Projector, Reciever, Speakers, Wires, ect... ect.....) I'm kinda at the point, I just want a salesman to tell me what's best. hahah..... J/K, but has been A LOT of work!

Thanks Guys

Well I realize it's not much help b/c I haven't heard the PSB subs, but I looked at the specs and eventually decided to go with AV-123 instead. I also considered the PSB sub because I purchased a pair of T55s not too long ago. I think you'll love them!

Anyway, I ended up with the MFW-15. What sold it for me was the craigsubs rankings where I went for a first reference, and then some of the frequency response graphs I saw out for the various subs.

I first purchased a Velodyne DLS-4000R and coming from nothing at all, it sounded very good. However, I did notice during calibration that the thing really would not put out any 25hz tones, and what it put out at 30 was already sounding like a significant dropoff, so I decided to start looking for something that could really go below 20 - or at least be strong down to 20. I watch a lot of movies. When I got the MFW-15, there was a clear difference.

The 6i is listed at a 27hz cutoff. Far above 20hz. I'm sure it's a good subwoofer, but for movie usage I think most people would recommend getting a sub that can go as low as possible (assuming it has good sound). If you're only looking for music, then you'll probably want a list of different subs. I love my movies, and on my system it's probably 60/40 movies/music.

I was REAL close to the VTF-3 - it was the only other sub I was considering besides the MFW-15. Good price, the right specs, and great reviews available. I don't have doubts though. It only took one waterfall to make me smile. The only problems I have are A: I live in an apt., and B: I can't afford another MFW-15 right now.

Not sure if that's much help, but best of luck to you!

I wouldn't sell the PSB 6i short. While I haven't heard it, it looks to be pretty darn impressive in Tom Nousaine's subwoofer list. It's number 14 on this list:

Looks like some darn good output to me. You might be able to find an actual review if you search as well. Just wanted to point out that PSB's listing of the 6i being -3dB at 27hz doesn't make it a slouch below that, as I think I've been told before that the rating was rather conservative.

Thanks Noubourne.... I appreciate the thorough response.

The MFW-15 does look like a good sub, and affordable too. I just wish there were some direct comparisions of the PSB Subseries 6i and the MFW-15. From what I've read, PSB is very conservative with their specs, so I'd like to see how Craigsub would rank it.

I'm considering the MFW-15 if it becomes available and affordable. It would probably cost me about $150 more then the Subseries 6i. I'd like to pull the trigger on the entire 7.1 on Friday, I just need to get this sub issue resolved.

Thanks Again!

** thanks lalakersfan34, I didn't see your post until after I posted this one... Good List.

Well if this helps any, the T55s did a decent enough job for me in the interim between my subs.

I wouldn't buy a sub just to buy something. I did that with the Velo basically and ended up upgrading in 6 weeks.

I think being absolutely certain about your purchase will help prevent the re-occurrence of upgraditis, which you will most certainly catch hanging around here. Almost everyone is infected. It's an FTD (Forum Transmitted Disease).

Rick, I asked Craigsub this question once, I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him
"close to a Hsu VTF-2 Mark III".

pcsi, great info... thanks

However, I was wrong in the fact that I was quoted for a Subsonic, NOT a Subseries, which according to the performance link lalakersfan34 posted is not quite as good.

I think I'll get the entire PSB Image Series
1 x Image C60
2 x Image T55 Towers
2 x Image S50
2 x B25 (rears)

and then take Noubourne's advice and pair them up with a MFW-15.

Thanks for all your help guys!! (now, when's the MFW-15 going to be available?)
