Can you give component video connection a try?

Component video is absolutely capable of displaying high definition.

Depending on the resolution set on each of the HD players in your home system, if 1080P output was chosen, then this may be the problem and explain why the Z3 is showing a blank screen. The Z3 highest HMDI input signal is 1080i.

Check the Z3 and OPPO user menus will see what the HDMI input/output signal resolution settings are since this is working.

If the HD players are set to output 1080P then by resetting output resolution on each player no higher than 1080i should cure the problem. If you have them, temporarily connecting comp video (any three video/audio cables will do) cables to projector will permit you to access the HD player menu. If you can, I suggest you leave the HDMI cable connected so you can check the HMDI setting changes corrected the HDMI display problem). Be sure the Z3 input signal is either set to same resolution or to AUTO.

I tried the above mentioned advice (thanks JMarin and Tomahawktim) but I still have a problem (yes it does work via component video) I set my HD-A35 to 720p and the pj is also set to 720p the interesting thing now is when I first power on the HD-DVD I see (via HDMI) the Toshiba logo, no-disk, msg etc. and I can see the setup menu however as soon as I put in a disk be it DVD or HD-DVD it goes to the black screen.... now if I eject the disk then I can see the logo again and the eject disk icon on the screen.... I am starting to wonder if this has something to do with HDCP via the HDMI..... it is the only thing I can think of..... on a side note..... just to check the pj I put back the oppo dvd and it works fine it only has the problem with HD-DVD and Blu-ray. any further advice would be helpful Thanks!

Only solution i can think of to get another player or try another hdmi cable. I have PS3 and Z3 works normally with blu-ray discs and it also works with another hd sources i have (istarhd).

I agree - this sounds like an HDCP issue. I would give Sanyo a call to get their thoughts on this. 1-888-337-1215.

I agree a HDCP handshake issue over HDMI is very likely, and a call to Sanyo could led you to solving the issue. I have a friend who has a Toshiba HD-A3 going through a Onkyo 674 then to a Sanyo Z4 and it works great at 1080i. So Toshiba 3rd gen players can/do sync with Sanyo projectors.

The odds that both your HD-A35 and PS3 have HDCP handshake issues over HDMI has got to be very high. I have both of these players and they work flawlessly over HDMI to a Sony VW40. But this doesn't help you.

I'd check two things on the HD-A35. The manual states that a "no picture" issue could result if HDMI and Comp Video connections are simultaneously used. And a real long shot is the RBG output signal from the HD-A35. The HD-A35 setting "RGB ouput level" should be set to Standard (16-235) for Z3.

Good luck.
