Hello I have been searching around this forum a bit as I am in the market for my first projector. I have looked at alot of projectors but cant decide which one to buy. I was wondering if you guys could help me.

I have a room of 17x12 which is pre wired for a projector at 12'
It is a Dark room no windows and lighting is controlled
The room is only 8' in height
Price range can be from 1000-2000 i dont mind as long as i get a projector i will be satisfied with.
720 or 1080?
maybe onto a 92" screen

I play a lot of xbox 360 and watch movies. I also want to be able to watch sports on this projector.

Any help guys?

I'd go with BenQ W5000 a 1080p DLP at a little over $2000.

I'd go with BenQ W5000 a 1080p DLP at a little over $2000.

The W5000 is a good projector, but it can only throw a 90" image at 12 feet. Do you prefer DLP or LCD? What is your seating distance? Where you want to sit should determine the image size. A good starting point is 1.5 x screen width. For a 92" image that would give you a viewing distance of 10 feet. If you want DLP then you need a short throw projector if you want to get 92" or larger.

I want a LCD projector and I will have two rows of seat 1st row will be 16' away from screen and 2nd row will be 11' away. I would prefer a 92" screen.
Any suggestions?

If you must have a LCD projector then the only option for 1080p would be Sanyo Z2000. For 720p I'd look at Epson 720, Panasonic AX200 or Sony AW15.

p.s. Just noticed that the Mits HC4900 is now on sale at one of the forum sponsors. You may still be able to find the HC5000 for a little more than the HC4900. I had the HC5000, it was a very nice projector. The iris is somewhat noticeable when gaming but even then again I notice the iris movement on the Sony vw60. If you can stretch your budget then the Sony vw40 would be a good choice.

Do you see rainbows? Is that why you have ruled out DLP? I agree with the above poster on his suggestions. In LCD the best deal going is the Epson HC720. Currently there is $100 rebate, extra bulb and a forum sponsor was offering additional $50 off.
