How do I hook it up so when watching a program on my satelite reciever I can just hit "record" and it will record the program using HDMI cables? Panasonic DMR-EZ28K only has HDMI out, so that can only be plugged into the TV? I was planning on using an HDMI switch, have the reciever go to that, then to the Panasonic DMR-EZ28K, then to the TV. But there isn't an "HDMI in" on the Panasonic DMR-EZ28K. Is component the only way it's possible? If so, I'm bummed, I only got it for the HDMI capabilities.

thanks!

The Panasonic EZ-28 has only 3 possible inputs:

(1) the tuner for analog and digital channels from OTA or cable (including clear QAM channels)

(2) composite video input (the yellow video connector)

(3) S-video input

No current DVDR in the US/Canada has component or HDMI input.

The method used to connect your satellite STB depends on the available outputs.

Please note that you will only be able to record 1 channel from the STB, either the 1 you are also watching, or 1 that is recording while you are not watching. You will not be able to watch 1 program and record another -- unless your STB has 2 tuners.

First, look here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=599173 First post. Read. Live.

Additionally, since DVD recorders cannot record HD, there is no reason to have an HDMI input, or any kind of HD input. The recorder can only record in 480i. Use the s-video output from your sat STB.

I am afraid that if you buy ANY DVD recorder for its "HDMI capabilities" because you think you can record from the HDMI, you will be sorely disappointed. Sorry. That is just the way it is right now.

Blu-Ray recorders are coming, I hear, so things may change soon... but you know they will be hamstrung by DRM...

That all makes sense. Them putting HDMI output threw me off. I feel like a fool buying this thing now, my 2002 Panasonic DMR-E80H can do all of this. Darn it.

You gained a digital tuner and 1080p unconversion if you use the HDMI out.
