I've had my p42HD for about 2 1/2 years and its performed quite flawlessly. This afternoon the screen started flickering, like you can see the picture but the coloring is distorted and flashes every few seconds, until there is no color and all i see is a black outline of everything. I've never had this problem before, and if i turn the tv off it works for about 2 minutes before it goes again. It's happening on both dvi and Ypbpr.

Should I consider getting it repaired(no warranty left), or is it time to search for a new TV??

If so, any ideas on a 42" or bigger for less than $1k??

If you are happy with your current Vizio (other than it dying), I see no reason why not to consider the new VP422. It can be had at Wal Mart for like $747. I have the VP322 and am very happy with it. Just be sure to get the extended waranty.

If you can stretch your budget about a hundred bucks more you can get a very reliable Panasonic TH-42PX80U locally.

Samsung PN42A450 is on Amazon right now with a free HDTivo... better shipped price than most normal vendors.

+1 On the Panasonic that Randy suggests. Great bang for the buck unit.

Well, my Vizio VP322 was DOA right out of the box!!! I have a 58" Panasonic and love it; but I tried to save a couple buck on two plasmas behind my bar (the second one works fine, so far)....... This is my first experience with Vizio and I'm VERY disappointed..... My advise is, you might want to stretch your budget.

It's not like the set lasted a few months and died, he did have it for 2 1/2 years. I have not been here very long, but there seems to be a lot of animosity towards Vizio. As I understand it even the best of sets can have problems. As stated I do not know a tremendous amount about Plasma sets and such. I simply stated an option for the poster.

If it was a Panny or a Pioneer they would have offered the same suggestion you just did.

My Butt. Two and one half years and it's dead??? What a piece of trash.
Vizio should give him a new set warranty or no warranty. Again....What a piece of trash after just two and a half years. And then you agree....go buy another Vizio.

I actually find your post rather funny when there is a Panasonic color shifting problem thread and a Phillips just diesdthread right above this, and I do believe there is a Pioneer problems thread as well.

It's soo true, If someone posted that their Panny or Pio died, everyone would all share this greif with that person like some communal family and then offer up good suggestions and suggest them to look at the newer Panny or Pio models and it just stinks it happened but these things do happen, type of comments. Pick a brand any brand with owner threads and you'll find a bunch of crap happening to their sets.

Someone post a problem with a Vizio and out comes the arrogance, the claws and this hate. Selective memory and double standards, got to love it.

also Burnsalk, what set do you own? Are you happy with it? Now what if your set died after a couple of years? Would you dis-own that brand?

Oh and please don't say "My set won't die" because you just don't know that.

Plasma televisions should last much longer than 2 or 3 or 4 years. They should last the amount rated - 60,000 hours or whatever that plasma says.

OP, if you complain enough to Vizio they might replace it. Keep calling Vizio and don't give up.

As for a replacement, I've seen great sales at Sam's Club. For a hundred or two more you can get a 50" plasma. :D

You are right any set can have problems , I have a Pioneer 4270 that is 1 year 3 months old .Last Month my set had an issue with a thin black line across the entire screen . Called Pioneer Service and they set up a repair . They eneded up replacing the pannel and it was 2 month out of waranty( did not get the extended just the 1 year from Pioneer) So far they stand by their product. :)
p.s. the new pannel on the old set looks better than when it was new;)

I own a 4 month old Pioneer 5080. If it dies after 2 years I certainly will dis-own the brand. At least for their Plasmas.
