Planning to buy a optoma (hd71 or hd70) projector but have a question on audio connections. I have a onkyo ht-sr800, toshiba lcd 42hl67 as for now. Since my receiver has hdmi pass through only how can i get sound from an optama projector through it? And another thing, i don't have a cable box either or else it would of solve my problem by getting audio pass through it. the only thing that i have now is a FTA box(if u know what i mean) and it has old school audio rca jacks.(red and white). Projectors only process HDMI for audio don't they? Sorry that i made it confusing. Thanks for your help.:)

P.S anyone knows if there's a audio converter box or something?::confused:

A projector displays images. It does not have anything to do with sound.

Your AVR has 2 in 1 out HDMI pass through only. You can use HDMI to connect any video devices (DVD, HD DVD, BR, Set top box or sat. receiver) to your AVR (audio video receiver) and the video will be passed on to the projector or TV using HDMI out on the AVR. Now for audio you will need to connect each device to your AVR with an optical or coaxial digital connection. Remember to assign the the digital audio input to the HDMI input so that you get sound with the video source that you are watching. Go to Onkyo USA and down load their quick hookup guide for your AVR. www.onkyousa.com/searchResults.cfm

The direct link did not work. Type in your AVR number on Onkyo's site and it will get you to the downloads for your AVR. Select quick hookup guide and it will show you. This should also be in your O & M manual.

i remember reading a forum about hdmi switch improving the rate of 4.95 Gbps

HDMI switch uses active compensation electronics to correct signal degradation to ensure a pristine EYE Pattern for error free transmisssion.

no active compensation with active compensation
