View Full Version : Pan TH-50PE77U firmware upgrade - oh no

I should have left well enough alone...I figured that my TV was almost out of warranty, so I should install the firmware update as the TV is likely going to be discontinued. I read many posts about the firmware and never a comment of any problems.

Anyway, I installed the tuner upgrade 1.130 for my TH-50PE77U tonight. After the reboot of the TV and initialization, none of my video inputs work, video 1-3. Everything else seems fine, but no video on these composite jacks.

The other odd thing, is I had BOTH component and HDMI hooked up from my cable box to the TV. I could switch between them before the update. I was trying to decide which I wanted to use long term (HDMI seemed obvious, but I wasn't sure). After the upgrade, if the HDMI cable was plugged in, I only had sound on component 1, no video. When I unhooked HDMI, Component 1 was fine. I'm less worried about this as it only seems to be a problem when both are plugged into the same device (which really shouldn't be done). With HDMI on the cable box, component 1 works fine on a DVD player (I tested it).

Any idea on the video inputs? I have a tech coming on Wed next week to fix the clicking noise (felt kit, never had it done), so I'm curious if I need to ask him to address this too.

Thanks

Solved. I accidentally hit the Progressive button on the DVD player. And when I tried the other DVD player, it was also on Progressive. The composite inputs can't handle progressive. I didn't think of that. I shut it off, and all is well. I figured it out by trying another device (Playstation) and all was well.

Hopefully this helps someone else.
