Hello,

I just got a 1.3b hdmi switcher and 24 awg cables from monoprice. When I connect my PS3 to the switcher and then to tv (Samsung HL67A750) at 1080p/60 I get snow on the screen. However, if I drop the resolution to 1080i all works fine. Also, if I connect the cable directly from the PS3 to the TV, all works fine at 1080p as well.

Monoprice tech support told me that it was most likely and HDCP issue and that it's not a defective switch. However, I just realized that I see the snow on the PS3 menu screens as well (no dvd or blu-ray inserted). I wouldn't think that the PS3 would protect its menu screens so I'm wondering if HDCP is really the issue.

So, I was wondering if anyone had any solutions for this or perhaps a different switcher that might not have HDCP issues.

Thanks for any advice.

I have the exact same problem. 720p games work perfectly, but 1080p games, or the main menu has my amplifier jumping around. Finally I get multi-coloured snow.

I had the same problem with the Monoprice unit. I think Monoprice has a good switch it just does not work in all situations.
I now use this: http://www.octavainc.com/index.htm

I can send the signal to a tv or a projector. Works great, take about 5 seconds for the handshhake. I have had no problems and the people there are easy to work with.

So I discovered something interesting yesterday...

I had my PS3 -> switcher -> TV with the PS3 set to output 1080i. Picture on screen was fine. TV said it detected a 1080i/60hz signal.

I went into the PS3 display settings and added 1080p without removing 1080i... TV took a second to reconnect with the switcher/PS3 and then came back at 1080p/60hz WITHOUT snow! So it looked like it was able to handshake correctly if you started it out at a 1080i.

However, I then powered off the tv and PS3 and started it from a fresh boot... When PS3 and TV synced, I had snow again at 1080p/60. Redoing the whole process of going to 1080i, syncing, and adding 1080p back gave me a snow free picture again.

So, I would think that this is a bug in the switcher's HDCP implementation... somehow it can get valid syncing at 1080i and then if you switch to 1080p, it doesn't resync and just switches to 1080p? However, if you try to sync directly at 1080p it fails and gives you snow.

Wonder if monoprice can fix this in the firmware.
