View Full Version : Descent I Pairing !!
Doobieedoo 06-08-08, 08:31 AM So I recently got the Martin Logan DescentI and have the budget to pair it with another sub.
My Option is Rel B1 or another Descenti. I wanna get a Rel B1 but it seems it is kinda hard to set it up( like there is no LFE input, It comes with a 10mtr wire which I think will no make it to the corner I wanna put the sub at...)
Descenti on the other hand, well I already have one and it will match :)
Just wanna throw this decision making dilemma in here. Thanks in advance.
sivadselim 06-08-08, 02:26 PM Get a matching, identical sub. Mixing subs presents issues.
Called "LFE" or not, the B1 has inputs. And you can get another "wire".

It really is hard to beat a pair of matched ML Descent i's . . . it is plug and play . . .a longer cable is no biggie. Matching different subs can be done, but the tweak factor could be annoying if you are not an audiophile. Just my two cents.
MIkeDuke 06-08-08, 06:59 PM 2 descent subs would be fantastic. I heard the orginal one some years ago and I was impressed with it. Go with the two matched subs.
Doobieedoo 06-10-08, 01:12 PM Thanx for the inputs :), have decided with a matching Descenti.

That's great. Please post back on the setup. I would just be curious to hear how 2 Descents perform.

Well I just got a second descenti and I really dunno what to say lol.All the audyssey,crossovers,small/large settings, crawling method to find the bass, spl readings, today I saw a setting on avr where sub output is set at +15db dunno if i should mess with that.. I have done few of the things mentioned but aint getting that gut thumping slam I need dunno what I am doing wrong,or where to look for settings since it has volume control for 50hz as well as 25hz.
Just for kicks attaching my room layout and wanna ask ya where would u put the Descenti's since I am guessing u know what DescentI's are and what they are capable of :)

And if you calibrate them properly, the combined subs' level should still be calibrated to the same overall volume level, so you don't really get increased output; just the potential for it. If you want the maximum output gain, collocate them (i.e stack them). You won't get any more depth.
Regarding the "15dB" boost setting, just leave it be. That is usually only important if you are using the receiver's external inputs for multichannel playback, in which case, if you are using the external inputs, +15dB is probably the correct setting for you. Whatever it is set to will "come out in the wash" when you calibrate properly.

By stack them u mean put both of them in fr/fl corners or br/bl corners? As u can see from the layout I sit quite far from the screen,so I am leaning towards putting both of them at the back..
