So a month or so ago i bought a HT-SF2000 HTIB and until last night have only had the center, and front two speakers setup with the rear two sitting on my couches end tables.

Last night I ran the wire through the attic and mounted the rears to the ceiling. Figuring since all was where it would stay, I decided to run the auto calibrate. Since doing this, everything sounds like it's in a tin can. Almost echoing and tinny sounding. I unplugged the rear two to see if maybe i was just not used to it, but it sounded the same this way also. Currently using a Schientific Atlanta 4250 hdmi with optical audio (it doesnt output dolby digital through the hdmi for some reason). The setup has gone unchanged other than relocating the rears and running the auto calibrate.

I've gone through all the menus and messed with everything trying to fix the sound quality but it doesnt seem to change much. Is there something specific i can look for?

Thanks

how about just reseting everything? Then it should sound good again, right? or am I missing something?

ive reset everything a couple times and used the auto calibrate a few times also (along with manually trying to adjust it).

Forget the auto calibration :P
You can go to the last menu - A CAL - LOAD (off) - disables the Auto calibration parameters.

Unfortunately I also have the same problem :(

Are you accidentally applying some DSP like "Stadium" or "Theater" or something like that? Provided the broadcast is in DD5.1, make certain you are decoding and listening in plain ol' DD 5.1. If the broadcast isn't 5.1 (and MANY aren't), then it will likely be 2.0 (or nothing) and your receiver will apply a DSP to the 2-channel material. You should use DPLII as your DSP for 2.0 sources. The other DSPs can sound wacky.

Are your rear speakers properly wired to be in-phase (the auto-cal might tell you if they're not, or adjust for it)?
