Hey folks,

I finally started on my basement theater/bar/gameroom project and I'm moving along with a pretty good speed (I'll start a construction thread in the next few days with the plans and the goals). But I've run into a snag while designing around the bathroom - namely, I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

Adding water lines is no problem, (3 rules - left is hot, right is cold, and sewage won't go uphill), doing the general bathroom construction is no problem, but what the hell are these 2 other things!!?

Against the wall is the 2"(ish) pipe for the sink drain, to the right is the one for the toilet - but what is the gravel covered, perhaps plastic covered hole on the left, and what is the bucket cemented to the floor covering up? If anybody has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it!

(sorry about the pic quality, it's pretty far back in the basement and I only had my phone with me)

Chris,

Bucket is probably covering the tub drain. It allows for more adjustment when placing the tub. Gravel in hole is potentially covering a sewage ejector basin and lid. Likely the basin is already installed and all drains are tied to it so you will need a sewer ejector pump and associated PVC piping for tying to sewer and vent from 1st floor. Mine was set up almost the same way and this based on my experience obviously. Don't forget to seal the ejector pit before use or smelly stuff will become obvious after a little while:D

I agree in that it looks like the sewage ejector pit. They are normally set flush to the basement floor. I'd scrape the gravel away or whatever is there and to see if it's the basin. They are usually about 18" in dia and 30" deep with a metal lid with 4-6 screws.
