Hello all, I'm looking for help and guidance on an issue I have. I got these :
Receiver = HK AVR 7300
Projector = Mitsubishi HC5000
1080 DVD Player
Verizon FIOS HD set top with HDMI
I want to use the HDMI capabilities of all my components. Only, the AVR7300 does not have HDMI input/output. I like my 7300 and would like to keep it. So, what are my choices (short of buying a HDMI receiver) to make the 7300 "hdmi compatible" ?
Should I be looking at Component-to-HDMI and HDMI-to-Component convertors/scalers ? If so, which one(s) ? Would it work?
Or, is there another alternative?

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Generally you want to avoid any conversions between component and HDMI since you tend to lose something in the process.

Your could use an HDMI switch to switch the video and connect the audio only to the AVR7300 (preferably with digital connections). You would have to switch two connections when you change sources, but that could likely be performed by a 1-botton command using a macro with a programmable remote.

You could also use an HDMI switch that switches both the HDMI and the digital audio. Octavaincc http://www.octavainc.com/HDMI%20switch%204port_toslink.htm, and probably others, make such switches.

Thanks for responding. If I use a switch for video and route audio thru the 7300, would there be any lag/delay in the piture and sound?
Thanks!

Thanks!The electrical delays through the switches are sub microsecond so are negligible. Any delay problems will be there with or without the switches and are usually due to delays in the TV processing of the picture, hence the receiver often has the ability to delay the sound to allow syncing of the audio to the video.
