So I discovered something interesting with respect to my dropout issues (hopefully this might help some other people).
I have an LG BH-200, and I was having brief (but fairly frequent) audio and video dropouts. I had my BH-200 and my cable box connected via HDMI to my Onkyo 705, and from the 705 to my tv via HDMI.
I've never had any dropouts with my cable box, just my BH-200. I spoke to LG, and they said they thought it was an HDMI handshake issue.
Recently, I decided to pick up a Samsung BD-UP5000 too. I was curious to see if the BD-UP5000 did better in my setup with respect to dropouts, so I took out my BH-200, and put the Samsung in it's place.
Unfortunately, the dropouts with the Samsung were just as bad (or possibly even worse.)
I tried different cables (all HDMI 1.3) but nothing made any difference.
I was pretty frustrated, and then an idea occurred to me... My Onkyo has 3 HDMI inputs on the back of it, but I only have 2 devices connected.... maybe I should try moving the Samsung (which was going into port 2) to port 3.
My cable box has always been connected to port 1, and it's been fine, but when I put the Samsung in, I just connected it to the HDMI cable I'd been using for the LG, connected to port 2.
Since moving it, I've watched 1 movie (2 hrs), plus 3 episodes of Planet Earth (roughly 3 hours) without a single dropout of any kind.
So, I'm thinking there's either something wrong with port #2 on my Onkyo, or that port has a different tolerance which is causing HDMI hiccups. It could just be my unit, or it could be something generic to the Onkyo 705, so if anyone is having issues, I recommend switching ports if you can.
Actually, regardless of what amp or tv you have, if you're having dropouts, try switching ports.
Granted, I've only watched about 5 hours since doing this, so it's hardly conclusive, but prior to this, I watched 2 episodes of Planet Earth, and had about 5 audio/video dropouts per episode.
I haven't had a chance to put the LG back in to see if this clears up the dropouts with the LG too, but I'm hoping to do so tonight.
Cheers,
Stuart
