View Full Version : Gray Windows and other patterns online?

I'm curious as to whether there is a website or some online resource where I can find gray windows and other calibration patterns. I'm trying to calibrate my Nintendo Wii and assume I could use the Internet Channel, go to the site, and then calibrate the Wii for 480p.

My only other option would be to set my Oppo 970 to 480p, even though it's connected via HDMI (the Wii by component), and transfer those settings.

Would the latter work if the former is not available? Any other suggestions for calibrating the Wii?

Thanks!

Greetings

All assumes that video games are created based on using calibrated displays in the creation chain.

Sadly few games are created this way ... so there is no proper way to calibrate for any specific game.

If the Game has some THX emblem on it ... then at least calibrated monitors were used in the creation of the game.

The Wii doesn't play back DVDs?

The Wii doesn't play back DVDs?

Nope...it's a feature they "might" add in the future, but after a year and a half it's not looking too likely.

Johnny,

If you go that route, I'd try and plug the Oppo in via the component inputs and set it to output 480p. Experience with my displays has shown that a lot of the variance can come from how the display actually handles the different inputs. So, if you want to simulate the connection with the Wii, probably best to use the component inputs if you can.

hope this helps,

Realistically though, this is a Wii we're talking about, PQ isn't really the biggest concern with a standard-definition gaming console, IMO. It's more about fun, etc. I've never played or looked at anything on the Wii where I felt "gee, I should calibrate this properly to get the most accurate experience."

That being said, there are numerous patterns floating around the web you could use, however most will be at graphics levels. This is likely to match the Wii games, but I actually have no idea. As it's not really a video/media console, it would make sense to me, but I've never measured a wii to know what it's doing. I just play the games :D
